1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThere is not enough comparable evidence to name five verified winners or promise current prices. The strongest support is for two wireless options—the Sony WH-CH520 and JBL Tune 520BT—plus one wired USB-C model, the JBL Tune 520C. A fourth candidate, Sony MDR-ZX110, has conflicting fit descriptions from Sony, so treat it as a verify-before-buy option rather than a confirmed on-ear pick.
At a glance: what each model offers
| Model | Connection and fit | Useful details | Evidence and buying caveat |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sony WH-CH520 | Wireless, on-ear | Bluetooth multipoint; up to 50 hours of battery life; no noise cancelling, according to What Hi-Fi. | What Hi-Fi’s June 19, 2026 guide lists reference prices of £49 / $59 / AU$79. These are dated reference prices, not guaranteed live prices. Sony’s specifications list Bluetooth 5.2. What Hi-Fi; Sony specifications |
| JBL Tune 520BT | Wireless, on-ear | Bluetooth 5.3; the manufacturer provides a specification sheet. | No current retail price is established by JBL’s product page. RTINGS directly compares it with the WH-CH520. JBL product page; RTINGS comparison |
| JBL Tune 520C | Wired USB-C, on-ear | 32 mm drivers, inline microphone and three-button remote. | Check that your phone, tablet or computer supports USB-C audio, and confirm local availability and price. JBL product page |
| Sony MDR-ZX110 | Wired; on-ear fit is unresolved | Sony’s US product page describes it as wired on-ear. | Sony’s support specifications classify the wearing style as over-ear, so verify fit in person or with a reliable seller before choosing it for an on-ear fit. The manufacturer page displayed $9.99 when checked; that volatile listing is not a market-wide current price. Sony product page; Sony support specifications |
This is a shortlist, not a ranked top five: the available evidence does not establish five current models tested on the same basis with comparable prices. The dated model details above are not a substitute for checking today’s local stock and retailer listings.

Which connection should you choose?
Choose wireless if you want to move without a cable
The WH-CH520 and Tune 520BT are the two wireless candidates supported by a direct comparison from RTINGS. Both are described there as lightweight on-ear headphones with app support and multi-device pairing. Wireless means charging the headphones and pairing them with your source device; Bluetooth version alone does not tell you which one will sound better.

The Tune 520C connects by USB-C, so it avoids Bluetooth pairing but requires a device that supports USB-C audio. Check compatibility for your exact phone or computer rather than assuming that every USB-C port carries audio. The MDR-ZX110 is another wired possibility, but its on-ear classification needs checking because Sony’s own pages disagree.
#1 Best Overall
- Custom acoustic architecture and updated drivers for powerful Beats sound.
- Personalized Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking.
- Ultralight ergonomic design for all-day comfort. Flex-grip headband and ergonomically angled, adjustable ear cups for a stable fit.
- UltraPlush ear cushions are designed for comfort and durability.
- Up to 50 hours of battery life.
Check fit, noise control and everyday usability
- Fit: On-ear cushions rest on the ears. Pressure and comfort vary from person to person; a product description cannot guarantee all-day comfort. Try the fit if possible, especially if you are sensitive to pressure.
- Noise control: What Hi-Fi says the WH-CH520 has no noise cancelling. Do not treat a closed-back design or passive reduction of outside sound as active noise cancellation.
- Controls and calls: JBL lists an inline microphone and three-button remote for the Tune 520C. Check official model details for any controls you consider essential on other candidates rather than inferring them from a product family.
- Compatibility: For wireless models, check Bluetooth support and any features you need, such as multipoint. For wired models, confirm the connector and audio support on your device.
- Portability: Compare folding design and carrying options in the specific listing if these matter to you; the sources cited here do not establish a consistent portability comparison across all candidates.
How to make a reliable low-budget choice
- Decide whether you need Bluetooth or a cable, then rule out models that do not match your device’s connection.
- Check the seller’s current price and stock for your country. Prices vary by market and date; the WH-CH520 figures are reference prices from a June 19, 2026 guide, while Sony’s MDR-ZX110 page showed a time-bound US listing.
- Confirm fit before buying an on-ear-only model. For the MDR-ZX110, check the actual listing and, where possible, try it because Sony’s product and support pages conflict on wearing style.
- Prioritize features you will use—battery life, microphone, controls, multipoint or noise cancelling—and verify them for the exact model. Bluetooth generation is not a sound-quality ranking.
- Compare return terms if fit is uncertain. A return option is especially useful for on-ear headphones, whose comfort is personal.
Why there is no honest five-model ranking here
The available sources support a direct wireless comparison, official specifications for the named products, and dated reference-price context for the WH-CH520. They do not provide five candidates with current, comparable prices or a uniform independent test basis. A numbered top-five list would imply a level of testing and price verification that has not been established. Check the linked manufacturer pages and retailer listings for the exact model and local availability before purchasing.
