ChatGPT is testing comparative labels on organic product results, including “Best all-rounder,” “Best for beginners” and “Best cushioning,” according to a report published October 6, 2026. The labels may help distinguish products by apparent fit, but OpenAI says such labels are generated by ChatGPT and are not guarantees or verified claims.
What labels appeared in the ChatGPT test?
Search Engine Watch reported that search-results analyst Brodie Clark spotted ChatGPT displaying labels including “Best all-rounder,” “Best for beginners” and “Best cushioning” on organic product results. Clark described the variation as a green “Best all-rounder” label, alongside grey labels identifying products as best for particular criteria. Search Engine Watch’s October 6 report and Clark’s October 6 observation characterize this as a test, not a confirmed permanent interface.

What do the labels mean?
The wording suggests a distinction between a product presented as the strongest general fit and products highlighted for a specific use or feature. For example, “Best for beginners” names a use case, while “Best cushioning” points to a particular attribute. The sources do not disclose the test’s scoring rubric or the evidence behind any individual label, so the wording should not be treated as an objective ranking or proof of performance.
OpenAI’s general guidance for product labels says they are generated by ChatGPT and may draw on third-party information. OpenAI cautions that they are not guarantees or verified statements and may not represent all available market data. That guidance applies to labels generally; it does not explain the precise inputs or criteria for this reported experiment. See OpenAI’s Shopping with ChatGPT Search guidance.

What does “organic” establish?
The report describes the affected results as organic, distinguishing them from a claim that they are paid placements. OpenAI says Shopping Research results are organic and based on publicly available retail sites, but that broad explanation does not establish how products were selected for this specific label test. OpenAI’s Shopping Research guidance also advises shoppers to confirm current price and availability with the retailer because prices, stock and discounts can change.
Who can see the labels, and when will they roll out?
The October 6, 2026 reports do not specify the test’s audience, geographic reach, product categories, duration or rollout plan. OpenAI’s reviewed official materials do not confirm this particular experiment. Its March 24, 2026 announcement said product comparisons using details such as price, reviews and features were rolling out to Free, Go, Plus and Pro users that week; that earlier shopping update does not show that the October labels are available to all those users. OpenAI’s product-discovery announcement provides that broader context.
