ChatGPT Space: How OpenAI’s Shared Pages and Files Work

ChatGPT Space brings pages, files, and related work together for sharing. Here’s how creation, editing, device support, and permissions work.

ChatGPT Space is a shared home for pages, uploaded files, and related work—not a built-in agent workspace. People can create and edit pages with ChatGPT, then share them with collaborators. OpenAI’s current documentation calls the feature “Space” and describes collaboration among people using their own ChatGPT; it does not establish that agents are built into Space.

What ChatGPT Space does

OpenAI describes a Space as “a home for your pages, uploaded files, and other work in ChatGPT.” Pages are editable documents and can contain subpages. Users can draft directly in a Space, create a page from a conversation, or start with a template, then ask ChatGPT to revise the page or make changes themselves. OpenAI’s Space guide recommends checking names, dates, calculations, and source information before relying on or sharing page content.

Space, Projects, and Teams are different

Feature What it organizes
Space Pages, uploaded files, and related work that collaborators can share.
Projects Chats, files, and project instructions. Projects remain separate; Space does not replace them.
Teams Coworkers who share membership and can be given access to Spaces.

OpenAI’s Teams guide distinguishes membership from shared content: a Team groups people, while a Space holds work and context. A Team can be shared with multiple Spaces, and a Space can include multiple Teams. Team membership alone does not grant access to a Space; sharing it with the Team is a separate step and remains subject to workspace permissions.

Who can use Space and where

OpenAI’s guide says people on ChatGPT Pro, Business, and Enterprise can create and edit Space content. In managed workspaces, collaboration depends on organizational sharing settings. Enterprise administrators may need to enable sharing. The guide also says Space is coming soon to Business and Enterprise workspaces with data residency in Canada or the United Arab Emirates; check the current help page for regional availability.

How to create and revise a Space page

  1. Create a Space: Ask ChatGPT, “Create a space named Website launch.”
  2. Make a page: Ask for a page in that Space, such as “Create a project overview page in Website launch with our goals, timeline, and next steps.” You can also write directly in Space, start from a conversation, or choose a template.
  3. Revise the work: Edit the page directly or ask ChatGPT to change its content. Use comments to address a specific passage; use page chat for broader revisions.
  4. Check it before sharing: Verify names, dates, calculations, and source information, particularly when collaborators will rely on the page.

What sharing exposes—and how access works

You can share an individual page or a whole Space and choose whether recipients can view or edit. Access may come from a direct invitation, a parent page, or the containing Space; subpages inherit access from their parent. Removing a direct invitation will not remove access someone still receives through a parent or Space. Moving a page can also change its access through the new parent.

Uploaded files follow the page’s permissions. A link to a file stored elsewhere does not itself grant access to the original; that file retains the permissions of its original service. But information copied or summarized onto a shared page is visible to anyone who can view that page, even if they cannot open the original file.

Sharing a page does not grant collaborators access to private chats or ChatGPT Memory. However, anything from personal context written onto the page is readable by people who can view it. Review both the page content and its inherited permissions before sharing.

Does Space include AI agents?

The reviewed OpenAI documentation describes people collaborating on pages, with each collaborator working with their own ChatGPT. It does not establish that agents are built into Space. The feature is best understood from the available documentation as an organizing and sharing layer for work in ChatGPT, not evidence of an agent team or autonomous workflow.
