That is a 50% drop in the reported plan-level comparison—not confirmation that every model cap or feature allowance was halved. OpenAI’s Help Center separately confirms a lower allowance for some Pro 200 subscribers at the same $200 monthly price.
What changed—and what “cut in half” means
On October 2, 2026, PCWorld reported that a rough chart shared by OpenAI’s Thibault Sottiaux showed Pro 200 at 10× the usage of Plus, down from 20×. The comparison is relative to Plus, not a published count of prompts, messages, or completed tasks. OpenAI’s searched Help Center pages do not show that chart, so the exact 20×-to-10× figures are media-reported rather than independently confirmed by the official documentation.

Which Pro 200 subscribers keep the previous allowance?
One OpenAI Help Center version says eligible subscribers retain the previous Pro 200 allowance through October 29, 2026, as long as their Pro 200 subscription remains active. After that date, the allowance moves to the lower level described for newer subscriptions. Eligibility is tied to account status at a cutoff or during the preceding seven days, so not every existing or returning subscriber should assume they qualify. Is Pro still worth $200 a month?
The reported 10× comparison alone cannot answer that: it does not say how many additional messages you personally get, how much work you complete, or whether your preferred model is available when you need it. The practical decision is whether the allowance and features you actually use justify paying $180 more each month than Plus. Pro 100 is another option at $100 per month, with a lower allowance than Pro 200 according to OpenAI.

- Consider Pro 200 if you routinely need the highest allowance among the two Pro tiers and can use the included advanced features enough to justify the price.
- Compare Pro 100 or Plus if you are not regularly constrained by your current plan. The 10× report does not mean every model gives Pro 200 ten times as many usable messages.
- Check your own usage and account terms before deciding, especially if you may qualify for the temporary prior allowance or would lose it by switching or letting the subscription lapse.
OpenAI has not published, in the cited material, a study showing how many subscribers are affected or how the lower allowance changes completed work. Individual results therefore cannot be inferred from the headline ratio.

Model limits and signup availability
Limits vary by plan and model. When you reach a model’s allowance, ChatGPT may temporarily make that model unavailable, offer another model, or show a reset time. The Help Center versions surfaced give conflicting signup information: one says new Pro 200 signups and upgrades were paused beginning September 10, 2026, while another says new subscriptions are available again. Because plan availability and transition terms can change, check the live plan page before relying on either statement or attempting to subscribe.
