Why usage can continue after you sign out
There are two separate things: your session in the other app and that app’s connection to ChatGPT. Signing out ends the first, but may leave the second in place. OpenAI’s guidance on using a ChatGPT plan in other apps and sites explains that an app can continue using plan usage if you authorized it to do so.

That authorization is also separate from signing in with ChatGPT. Identity sign-in can share basic profile information—your name, email address and profile picture, if present—without itself sharing your ChatGPT conversations or memories or an OpenAI API key. Eligible apps may separately ask you to let their AI requests count toward your ChatGPT plan. Review the app’s own permissions before approving them. See OpenAI’s Sign in with ChatGPT guide.
How to stop an app using your ChatGPT plan
- Check which app is using plan usage. In ChatGPT, open Settings > Usage. Review usage by app, the relevant time period and any weekly limit you set.
- Disconnect the app if the control is available. Go to Settings > Security and login > Login connections > Sign in with ChatGPT, select the app and choose Disconnect. Confirm the disconnection.
- If there is no disconnect control, end the app session. Sign out inside the third-party app. Some sign-in-only connections may not show a manage or disconnect option. For unlinking, account deletion or data-retention requests, contact the app provider.
- If you want to keep identity sign-in, check for a separate usage choice. If the app or sign-in flow offers an option to use your ChatGPT plan, turn it off. Requests through that connection should then not count toward plan usage; the app may offer a separate payment method with its own terms and pricing.

Understand app limits and overall usage
A per-app weekly limit caps how much of your overall weekly plan usage that app can consume. It is not extra usage or a reserved pool. An app can reach its own limit while some overall plan usage remains; that can explain why the app stops responding. Repeated sign-ins or retries do not restore usage.

If the usage looks wrong or unexpectedly high
- In Settings > Usage, compare the app, time period and its weekly limit.
- Usage settings may not show details for each action. Ask the app provider what activity drove the usage.
- If the ChatGPT usage record still appears incorrect, contact OpenAI Support. Disconnecting the app will not undo usage already recorded.
Check billing and data separately
The third-party app may charge separately for its subscription, infrastructure, services or premium features. Check that provider’s billing settings as well as your ChatGPT subscription. ChatGPT subscriptions billed through the Apple App Store, Google Play or chatgpt.com are managed on their respective platforms; subscribing on more than one platform can result in multiple charges. OpenAI explains platform billing in its guide on avoiding duplicate ChatGPT subscription charges.
Disconnecting is not the same as deleting data. Information an app already received is not necessarily removed when you disconnect it, sign out or delete its account. Use the app provider’s data controls or contact its support to ask about deletion and retention. OpenAI’s other-apps guidance treats disconnection and data deletion as separate matters.
