OpenAI announced that GPT-6 Luna reaches ChatGPT Free and Go users in the Chat tab starting October 8, 2026, one day after the same GPT-6 rollout began for Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise. Treat October 8 as the announced start of a staged rollout, not as proof that every Free or Go account can use Luna yet.
Which model Free and Go users get
OpenAI’s October 7, 2026 announcement maps the two GPT-6 models in ChatGPT by plan. Free and Go receive GPT-6 Luna. Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise receive GPT-6 Sol. OpenAI describes both models as tuned for everyday conversation, and the announcement states the mapping directly: “GPT‑6 in ChatGPT is powered by GPT‑6 Sol for Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise tiers, and GPT‑6 Luna for Free and Go tiers.” (OpenAI, “GPT-6 and Intelligent UI for everyone,” October 7, 2026)

What “starts getting” means in practice
The rollout is gradual. OpenAI’s release notes describe the October 7 start as global for the paid and workspace plans in the Chat tab, with expansion to Free and Go “starting tomorrow.” That wording was written relative to October 7, so the explicit dates are October 7 and October 8, 2026.
#1 Best Overall
Neither OpenAI source gives a completion time, an account-level order, or a per-account way to confirm access. Two things are therefore established: the start date for Free and Go, and the model each plan is assigned. Whether a specific Free or Go account already has Luna depends on where that account sits in the staged rollout, and the announcement does not say how to check.
The announcement also does not state a usage limit for Luna on Free or Go. Any limit you see in the product should be read from the interface itself rather than inferred from the model name.

What Intelligent UI changes in Chat
The rollout is branded as GPT-6 with Intelligent UI. According to OpenAI’s release notes, this capability lets ChatGPT combine text, visuals, and interactive elements to fit a question. OpenAI’s examples include side-by-side comparisons, diagrams, calculators, bill splitters, and games. ChatGPT chooses a format automatically and can still return a simple text answer when that is more appropriate.
The release notes also describe a behavior change in how answers arrive: GPT-6 can begin answering while it continues to think or use tools, then add findings without another prompt from you.
Rank #3
Intelligent UI is available from Instant through Extra High reasoning levels. The Pro reasoning option continues to use GPT-6 Astra and does not support Intelligent UI. Do not read that as a statement about every plan’s entitlements; it describes the reasoning levels the release notes list.
Scope: Chat only, not Work or Codex
This rollout applies to Chat. OpenAI says the models powering Work and Codex are not changing as part of it. OpenAI’s earlier September announcement covered GPT-6 Sol and Luna in Work and Codex, which is a separate availability context. The October Chat rollout should not be taken as evidence that Work or Codex changed on the same dates.
Rank #4
Enterprise and workspace admin settings
Enterprise access is the one plan where the announcement ties availability to a setting outside the individual user’s control. Enterprise availability depends on workspace admin settings, so an Enterprise user whose workspace has not enabled the change will not see it on the announced schedule. The announcement does not describe the specific setting’s name or location.
Safety evaluations for the October models
OpenAI’s Deployment Safety Hub system card for the October update distinguishes the October GPT-6 Sol and Luna models in Chat from the September versions that remain in Work and Codex. OpenAI Deployment Safety Hub, “GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna: October 2026 update,” October 7, 2026, describes its safety evaluations as tests that do not measure failure rates in typical use. It also says the evaluation methodology sometimes tests safety at the lowest reasoning settings and tests capabilities at maximum reasoning effort.
Best Value
Those methodological limits matter if you cite these results. They describe test conditions, not everyday performance, and they should not be read as a guarantee of how Luna behaves in ordinary conversations.
Figures OpenAI has published
OpenAI’s announcement says GPT-6 brings its latest advances to “more than 1.2 billion people who use ChatGPT every week.” This is OpenAI’s own figure in its October 7, 2026 announcement. The sources reviewed do not include an independent measurement of it.
What to check if you are on Free or Go
- Confirm the date: the announced Free and Go start is October 8, 2026.
- Look for the model name in Chat. Free and Go accounts are assigned GPT-6 Luna; Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise accounts are assigned GPT-6 Sol.
- If you do not yet see the change, the announcement does not provide a troubleshooting procedure. Because the rollout is staged, a delay is consistent with the announcement’s description, and it is not evidence of a fault.
- On Enterprise, ask a workspace admin to confirm the workspace setting that governs availability.
The article’s verifiable claims come from OpenAI’s announcement, release notes, and system card. Where those sources are silent, such as individual rollout timing, usage limits, and troubleshooting, this article has not filled the gap with assumptions.
