Their approaches differ: Sider highlights asking several models the same question, Monica emphasizes access across devices and a wider set of assistant tools, and Merlin focuses on browser-based help with webpages, documents, and videos. These are feature descriptions from the services themselves, not results of independent testing.
What to compare before you replace your AI tabs
A multi-model assistant can cut down on copying prompts between separate chat services, but “multiple models” does not guarantee the same models, access, or workflow in every product. Decide what you need the browser assistant to do, then check current model availability and terms on the provider’s site before choosing.

- Compare answers: Do you want to send one prompt to multiple models and review their responses side by side?
- Use the page you are reading: Do you need help summarizing or asking questions about webpages, PDFs, videos, or documents?
- Work across devices: Is browser access enough, or do you want web, desktop, or mobile access too?
- Review privacy and terms: Check permissions, page-data handling, retention, supported browsers, plan costs, and usage limits. The available product information does not establish these details comparably across all three services.
How Sider, Monica, and Merlin differ
| Service | What its official page describes | Most relevant if you want |
|---|---|---|
| Sider | A browser side panel for switching models, asking multiple models one question, and working with pages, PDFs, and videos. | To compare responses to the same prompt while keeping the page in view. |
| Monica | An assistant available across browser, web, desktop, and mobile, with chat, search, writing, translation, and summarization tools. | A broader set of assistant workflows and access beyond a browser extension. |
| Merlin | A browser extension with multiple models and assistance for webpages, videos, and documents. | Browser-based help with summarizing and working from content. |

Choose by the job you need done
When you want to compare model responses
Sider’s product page explicitly describes asking multiple models one question and comparing their answers in a side panel. That makes it the clearest fit of these three for a workflow where you want several responses to the same prompt without leaving the page. This is a vendor-described feature, not evidence that one model or answer is more accurate than another.
#1 Best Overall
When you want more than a browser extension
Monica’s official page describes availability in the browser, on the web, desktop, and mobile, along with chat, search, writing, translation, and summarization. Consider it if you want those broader entry points and tools in one service. Its available models may change, so check the current roster rather than relying on a remembered list.
When your browser work centers on content
Merlin’s official listing emphasizes browser assistance for webpages, videos, and documents, alongside access to multiple models. It may suit a workflow built around asking questions about or summarizing that material. The retrieved listing does not establish current plan costs or usage quotas.
What the privacy evidence does—and does not—show
A browser assistant may be able to process the page you are viewing, so the important question is not just which models it offers but what happens to page content and other data. A 2025 USENIX Security Symposium study audited nine popular Chrome extensions through 180 experiments across 20 website categories. The researchers used traffic inspection and controlled browser profiles and reported different data behaviors among the sampled extensions, including versions of Sider, Monica, and Merlin.
The study is a reason to inspect permissions and current privacy terms, not proof that today’s releases behave the same way or that every interaction exposes sensitive information. Its authors also noted methodological limits involving server-side account activity. Read the study’s scope and findings in the USENIX paper; do not treat an audit of sampled versions as a guarantee about current behavior.

- Confirm that your browser and region are supported.
- Check which models are currently included and whether access differs by plan.
- Look up current pricing, usage limits, and any conditions attached to free or paid access.
- Review extension permissions and the service’s privacy and data-retention terms, especially how it handles page content.
- Try the specific workflow you care about—such as comparing answers or summarizing a document—before moving sensitive or important work into it.
The available official descriptions do not provide a consistent basis for comparing prices, quotas, retention terms, or independent performance. Choose based on the workflow you need, then verify those changeable details directly with the provider.
