Charcoal cooking
Char-Broil says you can switch to charcoal without tools: place charcoal on the dedicated grate, return the cooking grate to the position marked “C,” then use the electric element to light the charcoal. The manufacturer page does not establish ignition time, a fuel quantity or a preferred charcoal type. Follow the current manual rather than guessing about fuel or operating details. Who the compact format may suit
Char-Broil positions the E2Coal for 3–4 people and smaller outdoor spaces. That is the manufacturer’s intended-use description, not an independently assessed serving capacity or proof that the grill fits a particular balcony. Check your available space and your building, landlord and local rules for outdoor cooking—especially before using charcoal. The product page does not establish that every balcony or shared outdoor area permits it.

Compatible accessories—and an important griddle limit

Char-Broil lists article 140029 as the Patio Bistro E2Coal griddle. The manufacturer says to place it on the cold grate and preheat electrically. What the specifications and review evidence can—and cannot—tell you
Char-Broil lists a stainless-steel cooking grate and a two-year warranty for the burner, grates, lid and firebox on its UK product page. Warranty coverage can vary by country and purchase date, so verify the applicable terms with the seller or manufacturer where you live. UK product specifications
The manufacturer’s page showed a 5.0/5 rating from one review, published 6 March 2026. That reviewer described using electric mode to avoid smoke on a terrace and choosing charcoal when it would not bother neighbors. This is one customer’s account, not a measured smoke comparison or evidence of broad customer consensus.

The E2Coal is worth considering if you want the choice of electric cooking and a manufacturer-documented charcoal setup in one grill, and its intended size and accessories fit your space and routine. Its headline temperatures remain manufacturer claims, and the griddle cannot be used in charcoal mode. Check local outdoor-cooking rules, regional warranty terms and the current price before deciding.
