Sony even lists temporarily changing DNS as one possible troubleshooting step for a PS5 connection error. That is reassuring, but it is not a blanket guarantee for every network setup or an exemption from PlayStation’s Terms.
What Sony’s rules and support pages say
Sony’s U.S. PlayStation Terms allow it to restrict, suspend, or terminate an account or device for violating the agreement, when Sony reasonably believes a violation has occurred or will occur, or when protective action is reasonably necessary. Separately, Sony’s PS5 guidance for error NW-102650-4 says a connection issue “could be improved by changing DNS settings temporarily.” That makes DNS changes a documented troubleshooting option—not a promise that changing DNS will resolve the problem, improve gaming performance, or protect an account from enforcement. What changing DNS does—and does not do
DNS, or the Domain Name System, translates domain names into IP addresses. PlayStation consoles expose DNS as a network setting; changing the resolver affects how names are looked up. It does not, by itself, change whether your conduct complies with PlayStation’s Terms. Sony’s setup guide lists DNS among advanced PS5 network settings and custom PS4 settings. Sony’s guidance does not establish that every third-party DNS provider is safe, that DNS changes conceal your identity or location, or that they can bypass Sony enforcement. Treat a DNS change as a network troubleshooting adjustment, not as a way to evade rules or a guarantee of better latency.
How to tell a connection problem from a suspension
A network error alone does not show that your account or console has been suspended. Sony says a suspension produces an error when you try to sign in and directs players to check their account or console suspension status. If you see a suspension notice, follow the status and support process and use the reason in the notice; changing DNS is not a remedy for an enforcement action. What to do if you changed DNS to fix a PS5 error

If you are unsure which DNS values to use or how to restore your network settings, ask your ISP or network administrator, as Sony advises for advanced settings. PlayStation console internet setup

If the console reports a suspension when you attempt to sign in, check the relevant account or console status and follow Sony’s stated support process rather than continuing to change network settings. PlayStation suspension guidance
