1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTo evaluate AI image edits fairly, record the exact test cases, inputs, model configuration, preprocessing, scoring rules, and skipped runs in a reusable test card. Score whether the requested edit was made separately from whether unrelated parts of the image were preserved: a model can succeed at one and fail at the other.
What a reproducible image-edit test card records
A test card is the audit trail for an evaluation. It should let another person identify what was tested, reconstruct how each image was prepared and edited, and understand how results were scored. Mark settings that a provider does not expose as unavailable; do not fill gaps with assumptions.

Evaluation identity
- Benchmark or card version: Give the version or revision identifier so results can be tied to a specific protocol.
- Date and evaluator: Record when the evaluation ran and who conducted it.
- Task family and intended use: State whether the test covers, for example, object removal, localized replacement, restoration, style changes, or multi-turn editing, and what decision the results are meant to inform.
- Fixed benchmark or evolving test set: Say whether the cases and instructions are frozen or whether the internal set changes over time. Results from a changing set are not directly comparable unless the evaluated version is identified.
Case identity and materials
- Stable case ID and category: Assign each case a durable identifier and label its edit type.
- Source image and provenance: Record the image identifier and where it came from, subject to applicable rights and privacy requirements.
- Exact instruction: Preserve the prompt as submitted, including wording and relevant formatting.
- Additional inputs: Identify any mask, region selection, reference image, or target image, and link each to the case ID.
- Relevant subject or style identifiers: Use these when they help interpret coverage or group results.
Model, provider, and run details
- Record the model and provider, plus a model version, checkpoint hash, or other available identifier.
- Name the inference interface and record exposed generation settings, such as resolution or other controls used in the run.
- State the number of outputs generated per case and the random seed when the system exposes it.
- Record run date and time, retries, errors, and failed generations. A retry is part of the run history, not a reason to silently replace an output.
- Mark seeds, versions, or settings as unavailable when the provider does not expose them. Do not imply reproducibility is exact if the service is nondeterministic or its configuration cannot be fully observed.
Input preparation
Document resolution, resizing or cropping, color handling, image encoding, prompt normalization, and how masks or reference images were supplied. These choices can affect an edit as much as the model configuration. If a benchmark protocol requires its images and instructions to remain unchanged, follow that rule and report any deviation rather than quietly preprocessing the inputs.

- Score requested-edit correctness separately from preservation of unaffected content.
- Add dimensions suited to the task, such as whether the change is localized correctly, detail quality, visible artifacts, visual quality, and integration with the scene.
- For every metric or judge, record its name and version, implementation or backend, thresholds, aggregation method, and rubric. Avoid presenting a blended score without explaining what it combines.
- Report total and completed case counts, skipped case IDs with reasons, output-file references, and disagreements among human reviewers.
- Keep a reliable mapping from each output to its input, case ID, and run configuration.
Choose a scoring method that matches the edit
There is no single best measure for every edit. A precise operation with one defensible result can be compared with a target image; an open-ended creative edit usually needs human judgment or a carefully validated evaluator. The scoring method should match the task rather than reward a convenient but irrelevant similarity.

Precise edits with one defensible answer
For geometric, structural, color, or symbolic operations with a clear target, use a ground-truth output and specify the metric and tolerance in advance. PaintBench illustrates this design: its procedurally generated tasks have a single ground-truth answer and use pixel-level CIE ΔE76 comparisons, with separate edit-accuracy and preservation-accuracy measures (PaintBench). That setup is useful for exact operations, but it does not establish overall aesthetic quality or settle whether an open-ended alternative is compelling.
Localized, mask-guided interactive edits
Evaluate both the requested region and the unchanged scene. Inter-Edit frames interactive editing around scene preservation, editing the intended region, and following the instruction. Its public repository includes objective metrics and VLM-based subjective assessment; report the individual metric names and versions instead of compressing them into an unexplained score (Inter-Edit repository; Inter-Edit CVPR 2026 paper).

Natural, open-ended edits
When several outcomes could satisfy the instruction, a pixel-perfect target can penalize valid results. Use an explicit human rubric or a validated evaluator, and disclose its limits. EditInspector’s annotation framework considers accuracy, artifacts, visual quality, seamless scene integration, common sense, and descriptions of changes. Its 2025 publication reports that current models can struggle to assess edits comprehensively and may hallucinate when describing changes; treat model-judge output as one measure, not ground truth, unless it has been validated for the task (Google Research: EditInspector).
Multi-turn editing
For workflows involving successive instructions, keep conversation history and the links between image versions. Include cases that test whether the system retains earlier changes and can return to a previous state. ImgEdit-Bench describes single- and multi-turn coverage, including content understanding, content memory, and version backtracking (ImgEdit repository).

How to compare benchmarks without treating scores as interchangeable
Different benchmarks answer different questions. PaintBench isolates precise tasks with a single answer; Inter-Edit emphasizes localized interactive edits; ImgEdit-Bench includes single- and multi-turn work; Artificial Analysis describes a human-preference benchmark organized around real-world use cases and editing actions (PaintBench; Inter-Edit; ImgEdit; Artificial Analysis methodology). A score from one setup cannot be read as a direct ranking against a score from another unless their task mix, inputs, procedures, and scoring are meaningfully aligned.
- Coverage: Which edits are included—addition, removal, replacement, style or scene changes, restoration, composition, mask-guided precision, or multi-turn work?
- Correctness and location: Did the edit happen as instructed, and in the intended part of the image?
- Preservation and quality: Did unrelated content remain stable, and are there artifacts or poor integration?
- Ground truth: Is there one correct output, a range of acceptable results, or only a preference judgment?
- Reproducibility: Are inputs, prompts, splits, preprocessing, model versions, seeds or settings, and exclusions recorded?
- Evaluation burden: Does scoring rely on scripts, human review, model judges, or a combination—and what costs or subjectivity follow?
Report coverage, exclusions, and limitations
A result applies to the cases and procedure actually evaluated, not automatically to every kind of image editing. State which task types the test covers, how many cases completed, and which IDs were skipped and why. Explain whether a metric measures edit accuracy, preservation, human preference, or another dimension, and what it cannot establish. Do not turn a narrow task score into a universal model ranking.

Sampled subsets can help with exploration, but they are not interchangeable with full-benchmark results. The Inter-Edit repository says final reported numbers use the full test benchmark rather than a sampled subset; label subset results accordingly if using them for internal diagnosis (Inter-Edit repository).
Dataset scale is also distinct from test coverage: the Inter-Edit authors report 1.1 million training examples, while the ImgEdit project reports 1.2 million curated edit pairs. Neither figure is a benchmark test-set size (Inter-Edit paper; ImgEdit repository). PaintBench’s project page displays a highest-performing mean IoU score of 17.1%, but the material cited does not establish the evaluation date or model set, so it should not be treated as a durable current ranking (PaintBench).
