Change the notification sound on Android

Open the Google Calendar app.

Tap Menu in the top-left corner, then tap Settings.

Tap General.

Under Notifications, tap Calendar notifications.

Choose the relevant notification and tap Sound to select a tone. You can also adjust vibration settings on this screen.

Google says notification defaults apply to new events unless you customize an individual event. These settings are personal to your account; changing them does not change notification settings for other people who can access the calendar. Google also says changes made on a phone sync with computer notifications. Google Calendar Help: Change Google Calendar notifications.

Turn on notification sounds on a computer
In browser-based Google Calendar, open Settings > General > Notification settings. Google documents choosing desktop notifications, alerts, or email. Its Workspace Learning Center also describes a Play notification sounds checkbox. These instructions cover enabling sounds, not choosing a custom desktop tone. Browser permission settings and the browser’s notification behavior can affect whether desktop alerts arrive or make a sound. If sounds are enabled in Calendar but you do not hear them, check that the browser is permitted to send notifications and that your computer is not muting them.

What you can change on iPhone or iPad
Google’s iPhone and iPad help explains how to change calendar or event notification timing and turn notifications off, but does not document an in-app control for selecting a notification sound. Google Calendar Help: Change or turn off notifications.

Do not assume that changing an Apple Calendar alert sound will change the sound used by Google Calendar. Google’s cited iOS instructions do not establish that workaround, so whether a system-level setting can change Google Calendar’s tone remains unresolved by those instructions.

If the menus look different
App labels and platform menus can change. On Android, look for Calendar notifications under the app’s general settings; on a computer, look under General > Notification settings. If an option is missing, check that you are using the Google Calendar app or website and review the notification settings for the platform you are on.
