CE-32930-7 means the downloaded game or application data on the PS4 hard drive is likely corrupted. Sony’s official fix is to delete the affected content and download or install it again. One occurrence does not prove that the console’s hard drive has failed.
Start with the least-destructive remedy below. Escalate to storage checks or repair only if the error returns, affects several games, or appears with other storage symptoms.

Fastest fix: delete and reinstall the affected game
- From the PS4 Home Screen, highlight the game or application showing CE-32930-7.
- Press the controller’s OPTIONS button.
- Select Delete and confirm.
- Reinstall the content. For a digital copy, open Library or the PlayStation Store and download it again. For a disc copy, insert the disc and let the PS4 copy the application.
- Install any available game updates before launching.
This is Sony’s dedicated remedy for CE-32930-7: Sony’s CE-32930-7 support page. Deleting the application is different from deleting saved-game data, but back up important saves before using database, initialization, or drive-replacement procedures.
What the error actually means
Sony describes CE-32930-7 as “Downloaded data on HDD is likely to be corrupted.” HDD means the storage holding the installed application, either the PS4’s internal drive or supported USB extended storage. The code can appear when the PS4 cannot correctly read installed data after an interrupted installation or another form of local corruption.
#1 Best Overall
- "Suspend mode" eliminates the load time on your saved game and allows you to immediately return to where you left off by pressing the power button.
- Enables the greatest game developers in the world to unlock their creativity and push the boundaries of play through a platform that is tuned specifically to their needs.
- Engage in endless personal challenges between you and your community, and share your epic moments for the world to see.
- Gamers can share their epic triumphs by hitting the "SHARE button" on the controller, scan through the last few minutes of gameplay, tag it and return to the game.
The code identifies likely corrupted content, not a confirmed console-wide hardware failure. Sony’s error page does not name one definitive underlying cause.
Protect saved data before escalating
Use Settings > System > Back Up and Restore to create a backup before rebuilding the database, initializing the console, or replacing storage. Sony says the USB backup drive must be formatted as FAT32 or exFAT and have at least twice the space required by the backup file; the backup process lets you choose what to include. Details are in Sony’s PS4 support documentation.
If the game is on a disc
A disc game still installs substantial application data locally, so CE-32930-7 can be caused by the PS4 installation even when the disc is readable.

- Delete the installed game using OPTIONS > Delete.
- Clean the disc with a soft, clean cloth and inspect it for cracks, deep scratches, or other damage.
- Reinsert the disc and allow a complete reinstall, then apply updates.
- If possible, test another game disc. If other discs work, the original disc or its installation is more suspect; if several discs fail, investigate the console.
For continuing disc-reading problems, see Sony’s disc troubleshooting guidance.
If the game uses USB extended storage
Check the external drive before reinstalling repeatedly. Sony’s supported extended-storage requirements are:
| Requirement | Sony’s specification |
|---|---|
| PS4 system software | Version 4.50 or later |
| Connection | SuperSpeed USB (USB 3.0) or later, connected directly to the PS4 rather than a hub |
| Capacity | 250 GB to 8 TB |
| Active devices | Only one extended-storage device at a time |
- Fully shut down the PS4.
- Check both ends of the USB cable and connect the drive directly to the console.
- Start the PS4 and try the game again.
- If the PS4 says the extended storage needs repair, follow the on-screen repair process.
- If the game remains unusable, delete it and reinstall it.
Never unplug extended storage while the PS4 is shutting down or entering Rest Mode. Sony warns that an improper disconnection can cause data loss, corruption, or damage. Compatibility is not guaranteed for every external HDD model. See Sony’s extended-storage requirements.

Rebuild the PS4 database
Use Rebuild Database as a second-line step when reinstalling does not help, several applications misbehave, deleted games remain listed, or content recognition and disc loading seem inconsistent. It scans the drive and creates a new content database; it is not the same as initializing the PS4.
- Turn the PS4 off by holding the power button for about three seconds.
- Press and hold the power button again after it is off.
- Release it after the second beep, roughly seven seconds after the first.
- Connect the controller with a USB cable and press the PS button.
- Select 5. Rebuild Database.
Follow Sony’s Safe Mode instructions. The process can take time on a large or heavily used drive.
Check for a system-software update
An update is general maintenance, not Sony’s promised cure for this specific code. Use only Sony’s official files and instructions. For a manual USB update, the file must be placed at PS4/UPDATE/PS4UPDATE.PUP, then choose Safe Mode > Update System Software > Update from USB Storage Device > OK. Use Sony’s system-software page for the current procedure.

When the storage drive becomes the likely suspect
One corrupted installation usually calls for a reinstall. A broader storage problem is more plausible when several unrelated games fail, corruption returns after clean reinstalls, installations fail at different points, or the PS4 freezes and loads content unusually slowly.
- Multiple games or applications show CE-32930-7 or similar corruption symptoms.
- The console reports internal or extended-storage errors.
- Games disappear, appear twice, or remain listed after deletion.
- The problem follows one external drive, which repeatedly disconnects or requests repair.
- Both downloads and disc installations fail.
- The PS4 crashes, freezes, or cannot complete database rebuilding.
These signs support a storage diagnosis but do not prove a failing HDD by themselves. Back up your data, test internal versus external installations, and contact PlayStation Support or a qualified repair service if the symptoms persist. Replacing a drive based on one CE-32930-7 occurrence is disproportionate.
What not to do first
- Do not factory-reset the PS4 before trying to reinstall the affected content.
- Do not choose Initialize PS4 without a verified backup; Safe Mode option 6 deletes user data.
- Do not choose Initialize PS4 (Reinstall System Software) as a routine fix; option 7 also removes the PS4 firmware.
- Do not format an external drive before confirming that deleting and reinstalling the game fails.
- Do not disconnect USB extended storage while the console is active or entering Rest Mode.
- Do not download unofficial system-software files or open the console before securing saved data and confirming a hardware diagnosis.
For Safe Mode option descriptions and data-loss warnings, consult Sony’s Safe Mode documentation.

A practical decision path
| What you observe | Best next action |
|---|---|
| Only one game fails | Delete and reinstall it; clean and inspect the disc if it is physical. |
| Several games fail | Back up saves, identify internal versus external storage, reconnect external storage safely, then rebuild the database. |
| Reinstallations repeatedly become corrupted | Suspect the relevant internal or external drive and seek storage diagnosis or repair. |
| Several discs cannot be read | Use Sony’s disc troubleshooting and arrange console service if the problem continues. |
| The PS4 cannot complete Safe Mode or database rebuilding | Stop destructive experimentation, preserve your backup, and contact PlayStation Support or a qualified repair provider. |
Should you buy another drive?
Usually not for a single CE-32930-7 error. A compatible USB HDD or SSD can add capacity, allow a clean reinstall, or help isolate whether an existing external drive is faulty. It cannot repair a damaged internal drive, and Sony’s 250 GB–8 TB and direct SuperSpeed USB requirements still apply. Consider replacement storage only after recurring, multi-game symptoms or a clearly failing external device justify it.
The Bottom Line
For CE-32930-7, delete the affected game or app and reinstall it first. Check the disc or USB storage when relevant, rebuild the database only if the problem persists, and reserve initialization or drive replacement for repeated, system-wide storage symptoms after backing up your data.
