Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf your Castr YouTube stream is stuck on “Starting,” first find out which stage is waiting: your encoder sending video to Castr, Castr sending it to YouTube, or YouTube waiting for you to start the scheduled broadcast in Live Control Room. Check the status and preview at each step before changing settings; “Starting” by itself does not identify the cause.
Find where the stream is stuck
Follow the signal in order: encoder → Castr ingest → Castr’s YouTube destination → YouTube Live Control Room. In the Castr dashboard, note the exact source status and whether preview or stats are visible. Then check the destination and YouTube separately.

| What you see | Where to troubleshoot next |
|---|---|
| Castr source is “Connecting,” with no preview or active stats | Encoder-to-Castr connection, server URL, key, region, protocol, and network health. |
| Castr shows the source, but the YouTube destination is not active | Castr destination setup, destination toggle, and the intended YouTube channel or event. |
| YouTube Live Control Room shows a preview but the scheduled broadcast has not started | Complete YouTube’s separate “Go live” step when ready. |
| The source is unstable, or the setup appears correct but still fails | Inspect Castr health charts and current service status; then give Castr support the diagnostic details. |
Check whether Castr receives the encoder feed
Castr’s setup guide describes the source status changing from “Connecting” to “Connected” once Castr locks onto the feed; its stats bar becomes active when it detects input. If the source is not connected, fix this stage before changing YouTube settings.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Make sure the encoder is running. Confirm its output is enabled and it is attempting to send the stream.
- Check the Castr server URL and stream key. Use the current values for the selected region and protocol, and check for accidental spaces or a key copied from another stream.
- Inspect the Castr dashboard. Look for a “Connected” source status, preview, and active stats. If these are absent, YouTube destination settings are not yet the primary issue.
- Review Health Charts. Look for bitrate drops and dropped frames that coincide with the stuck or unstable feed.
Castr Help Center guidance published in 2026 recommends upload capacity of at least 1.5 times the stream bitrate. Its example is 7,500 Kbps (7.5 Mbps) upload for a 5,000 Kbps stream. This is guidance, not a guarantee of a stable stream: other traffic, Wi-Fi conditions, and the full network path can still matter.

- Where available, try wired Ethernet; Castr says Wi-Fi can introduce packet loss and latency spikes.
- Pause bandwidth-heavy downloads, uploads, backups, or other streams while diagnosing.
- Choose an ingest location near the broadcaster where Castr offers that choice.
- If RTMP remains unstable, consider SRT. Castr says SRT can recover from packet loss automatically; that does not guarantee it will resolve every connection problem.
Use stable encoder settings
If Castr sees input but the feed drops, freezes, or has unstable stats, compare the encoder configuration with Castr’s published recommendations. These are vendor recommendations, not settings verified for your particular encoder, network, or stream.
| Setting | Castr Help Center recommendation (2026) |
|---|---|
| Video codec | H.264/AVC |
| Audio codec | AAC |
| Rate control | Constant bitrate (CBR) |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds |
| Resolution | 1920×1080 or 1280×720 |
| Frame rate | 30 FPS, or 60 FPS if the connection can support the higher bitrate |
| Video bitrate | 3,500–6,500 Kbps for 1080p; 2,500–4,000 Kbps for 720p |
| Stereo audio bitrate | 128 Kbps |
Match your chosen resolution and frame rate to the available upload bandwidth. If a higher setting causes bitrate drops or dropped frames, test a lower frame rate, resolution, or bitrate, then check whether the Castr source becomes stable.

Verify Castr’s YouTube destination
Castr documents two ways to configure a YouTube destination. Check which one you used, because the corresponding setup needs to match the intended channel and broadcast.
YouTube API connection
- Confirm the intended YouTube channel or event is still connected in Castr.
- Check that the correct destination is selected and enabled.
Manual server and stream key
- Compare the server and key in Castr with the values for the intended YouTube stream. A key for another event or an outdated key will not send the source to the intended broadcast.
- Check that the YouTube destination is enabled.
- Castr notes that when you use this method, description edits must be made in YouTube.
Castr’s specific troubleshooting tip is to turn destinations off while the source is offline, then turn them on again after the encoder source is live. Do not use this step as a substitute for verifying the destination values or confirming that Castr has received the source.

Complete YouTube’s separate go-live step
For a scheduled stream, starting the encoder and seeing Castr receive it does not by itself complete YouTube’s broadcast-start process. YouTube Help says: “In Live Control Room, wait for the stream preview to show up, and then click Go live.” Follow that sequence in YouTube Live Control Room when you are ready to broadcast. YouTube’s encoder setup documentation also says first-time live streaming enablement may take up to 24 hours.
Check for a service incident and contact support
Check Castr’s live status page at status.castr.com when the problem is happening. A previous status snapshot cannot establish whether there is an incident now. Castr says its ingests are redundant and automatically rerouted if an ingest fails; that is not a promise that every issue will be resolved automatically.

Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded videos looping as a 24/7 YouTube stream, rather than diagnose this particular Castr setup, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It supports whatever quality you upload up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and includes a first day free with no card. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. It streams uploaded videos to YouTube; it does not go live from a camera. See StreamNeo or start the free first day.
