Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTo cast from Chrome to a TV, connect your computer and a compatible Google Cast receiver to the same Wi-Fi network. In Chrome, select More → Cast, save, and share → Cast…, then choose the receiver. Use Sources → Cast screen when you want to show the whole desktop instead of one tab.
Before you start
- You need a compatible receiver: Chromecast, Chromecast with Google TV, Google TV Streamer (4K), Chromecast Ultra, or a TV with Google Cast built in. If you already have one, you do not need to buy another device.
- Connect the computer and receiver to the same Wi-Fi network, and use an up-to-date version of Chrome. Google recommends a strong connection. Google’s Chrome-to-TV instructions list supported receivers and connection requirements.
- On a Mac running macOS 15 or later, allow Chrome to access the local network so it can discover nearby devices. See Google’s Chrome audio instructions for the permission guidance.
Cast a Chrome tab
- Open Chrome and go to the page you want to show.
- Select More → Cast, save, and share → Cast….
- Select your receiver. If it is already playing something, casting from Chrome replaces the current content.
- To end the session, select the Cast control beside the address bar and choose Stop casting.
When a website’s player has its own Google Cast button, you can use that instead of casting the browser tab. It is a good choice when you want to play the site’s media on the TV rather than share the tab itself.

Choose between a tab and the whole screen
| Method | What appears on the TV | Audio | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cast tab | One Chrome tab | Tab audio goes to the receiver; other computer audio stays on the computer. | Playing a webpage or sharing one page while keeping other desktop work off the TV. |
| Cast screen | The computer screen | Audio may continue playing on the computer. | Showing content outside a browser tab, such as other desktop apps. |
| Website’s Cast button | Media selected in the site’s player | Handled by the site’s Cast playback. | Playing supported site media without mirroring the tab. |
To cast the entire screen, open More → Cast, save, and share → Cast…, select Sources → Cast screen, and choose the receiver. Chrome supports screen casting on Mac, Windows, and Chromebook. Google recommends casting a tab when you want the sound to come from the TV. Details are in Google’s Chrome-to-TV instructions and audio guidance.
Cast a local music or video file
- Open the file in a Chrome tab. You can drag it into a tab or use Ctrl+O on Windows or Command+O on Mac to open it.
- Open Chrome’s Cast menu and select the receiver.
Not every file or playback method will work: Google notes that some plugins and formats may not be suitable for casting.

Fix a receiver that does not appear
- Check that the receiver is powered on and has completed setup.
- Make sure the computer and receiver are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Chrome may not find a Google streaming device on a different network.
- Update Chrome and try again.
- Disconnect any VPN or proxy temporarily, then check the Cast menu again.
- If the receiver is still missing, restart the computer and streaming device.
- On a Mac with macOS 15 or later, verify that Chrome has Local Network access enabled in system settings.
Google’s missing-destination troubleshooting guide starts with setup and connection checks, so try those before considering a factory reset.

Most web content can be cast, but some sites or plugins are not compatible. Google specifically names Silverlight, QuickTime, and VLC as examples that may not work when casting a Chrome tab. If the website offers a Google Cast button in its player, try that route for supported media.
