If a CaptureKit screenshot shows a Cloudflare challenge, the request may have succeeded while capturing the challenge page rather than the destination. First identify whether you have a rendered challenge, an incomplete page, or an API error; then check the request and rendering settings. There is no documented CaptureKit setting that reliably solves Cloudflare production challenges. If you control the protected site, Cloudflare documents an owner-authorized Browser Run workflow.
Identify what failed before changing settings
Look at the returned image or PDF and the HTTP response separately. A challenge page in an otherwise successful capture is different from an API request rejected before rendering.

- Cloudflare challenge or interstitial: the browser rendered a security check instead of the intended page. The screenshot endpoint may have completed successfully, but the target content was not reached.
- Blank or partially rendered page: the page may not have finished loading, or some content may not have rendered. Check the request’s documented wait and rendering options.
- API error: inspect the response status and body, API key, account state, and request details. CaptureKit documents general API error classes, but consult its current endpoint documentation for the exact meaning of the response you received.
Cloudflare challenges can be triggered through different products and rules and use browser signals, so a screenshot alone does not establish the cause. See Cloudflare’s explanation of how challenges work.

- Confirm the target URL and credentials. Verify that the URL is the one you intended and that the request includes the API key in the documented
x-api-keyheader. - Confirm the requested output and device settings. CaptureKit’s Capture (Screenshot) reference describes its screenshot endpoint, output formats, device emulation, and proxy parameter. Check that your request uses supported values.
- Read the response, not just the image. Record the HTTP status and response body, and review your request logs. CaptureKit’s Introduction describes general API behavior and error classes, including authentication, account, request-size, rate-limit, and server errors. Use the current endpoint docs for the exact interpretation of your response.
- For incomplete pages, check rendering waits. If the endpoint succeeded but the screenshot is blank or missing content, review the wait and rendering controls in the API reference and allow the page time to render. The available documentation does not establish that a particular wait option will solve a Cloudflare challenge.
CaptureKit is an HTTP API that takes a URL and returns a screenshot or PDF. Its docs list device emulation and proxy support, but do not promise that either will get a request through Cloudflare protection. A proxy is not a documented Cloudflare fix.

If the screenshot is a Cloudflare challenge loop
Cloudflare says challenges can fail for reasons including network conditions, blocked challenge scripts, unsupported browsers, disabled JavaScript, or browser signals that appear automated. Its troubleshooting guidance recommends checking network and browser conditions; most challenges are quick and typically take only a few seconds, but that is general Cloudflare guidance—not a CaptureKit timing or success guarantee. See Cloudflare’s challenge troubleshooting guidance and its overview of challenge behavior.
Cloudflare’s supported-browsers documentation says automated browsers and frameworks such as Selenium, Puppeteer, Playwright, and Cypress are not supported for solving production challenges. Do not treat stealth flags, proxy rotation, or repeated retries as a reliable fix. For automated Turnstile testing, Cloudflare points developers to test keys. See Cloudflare’s supported-browsers reference.

Escalate with useful diagnostics
- Reproduce the problem and save a HAR (HTTP Archive) of the network activity.
- Export the browser console log from the same reproduction.
- Keep the CaptureKit response status, response body, request details, and logs alongside those files.
- If you can contact the site administrator, provide the challenge error code and Ray ID when shown. The site operator can investigate the zone’s rules and challenge behavior.
Cloudflare recommends preserving a HAR and console logs when investigating challenge-solve problems. Follow its troubleshooting guidance.
If you control the protected Cloudflare zone
For a site you own or are authorized to administer, Cloudflare documents a Browser Run screenshot endpoint that renders a page with HTML and JavaScript before capture. Cloudflare also describes configuring an appropriate WAF skip rule so Browser Run can access your own zone without the site’s bot-protection configuration interfering. This is an owner-configured workflow, not a way to bypass challenges on arbitrary third-party websites. See the Browser Run screenshot endpoint and the Browser Run FAQ.

Or skip the browser setup
For ordinary screenshot work, ScreenshotNeo offers a one-request screenshot API. This does not make third-party Cloudflare challenges reliably solvable; use an authorized site-owner workflow for protected zones you control.
cURL example, using Stripe as the target URL:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie and consent banners before capture and removes 60+ known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server provides screenshot and PDF tools for AI agents. The Free plan includes 1,000 shots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.

Fixes that do—and do not—fit the evidence
| Situation | What to do | What not to assume |
|---|---|---|
| CaptureKit returns an API error | Check the API key, request parameters, response status and body, account state, and request logs using CaptureKit’s Introduction and endpoint reference. | That the error is caused by Cloudflare; the screenshot may never have been captured. |
| CaptureKit returns a blank or incomplete page | Inspect documented wait and rendering options, then check the network and browser diagnostics if the target presents a challenge. | That a longer wait or a particular wait setting will solve a challenge. |
| The screenshot clearly shows a Cloudflare challenge | Preserve diagnostics and contact the site owner, or use an authorized workflow if you control the zone. | That a proxy, stealth setting, or repeated retry will reliably pass a production challenge. |
| You administer the Cloudflare zone | Evaluate Cloudflare Browser Run and its documented WAF configuration for your zone. | That the owner-only configuration applies to unrelated sites. |
FAQ
Does CaptureKit document a Cloudflare bypass setting?
Its cited public documentation describes a proxy parameter and device emulation, but does not promise that either bypasses or solves Cloudflare challenges.
Can I use Browser Run on a site I do not administer?
The documented WAF skip approach is for a zone you control or are authorized to administer; it is not a general-purpose fix for third-party production challenges.
