To capture an authenticated page with Selenium, establish a valid session in the browser, navigate to the target page, and save the current window with driver.save_screenshot("page.png"). If you add a session cookie directly, first navigate to a page on the cookie’s valid domain. Check that the page is authenticated separately: a successful screenshot save confirms file output, not login state.
Python example: set the session, then capture the page
For repeatable tests, use an approved application setup method—such as an API login that establishes test state—rather than automating a browser login before every capture. If your test needs to add a cookie directly, open the appropriate domain first. Replace the illustrative session value below with an authorized test value; never put a real session cookie in published code or logs.

Whether a cookie authenticates a site depends on its session design and cookie scope. Choose how to establish authentication
Prefer application setup for repeatable tests
Selenium’s test-practices guidance recommends avoiding a browser login before every test, noting that eliminating it improves speed and stability. It describes preparing application state by another method, such as authenticating through an API and setting a cookie. Use the setup mechanism supported by your application and test environment; an API login is an example, not a method guaranteed to work for every site. Use direct cookie injection only with the right context and values
Open a page on the cookie’s valid domain before calling add_cookie. The cookie may also depend on attributes such as domain, path, expiry, secure, httpOnly, and sameSite. Supply values appropriate to the application and browser; copying a cookie from another context does not guarantee a valid session.
What Selenium’s screenshot call captures
In the reviewed Python WebDriver API, save_screenshot(filename) saves the current window as a PNG and returns True on success or False on an I/O error. Use a deterministic path, create its parent directory, and check the return value. That result says nothing about whether the page rendered logged-in content. Verify the page state independently, for example with an application-specific element or expected text. See the Python WebDriver API reference.

Current window versus full document
The Python save_screenshot method is a current-window capture, not a universal full-page screenshot method. The reviewed Firefox Python API documents separate full-document screenshot methods. Check the API for your installed browser and binding before relying on full-page behavior; the reviewed documentation does not establish the same method across all browsers. Protect screenshots and session cookies
Authenticated screenshots can contain account information, and cookies carry session state. Restrict where both are stored, avoid printing cookie values or sensitive page content in logs, and share captures only with authorized recipients. Use test accounts and test data where possible.
