To screenshot the X app, use your phone’s built-in screenshot buttons: press Side + Volume Up on an iPhone with Face ID, Side + Home on an iPhone with a Home button, or Power + Volume Down on most Android phones. The image is saved to your phone, where you can view or share it.
Take a screenshot in X on an iPhone
Open the post, profile, or other X screen you want to capture, then use the button combination that matches your iPhone:

- iPhone with Face ID: Quickly press and release the Side button and Volume Up at the same time.
- iPhone with a Home button: Quickly press and release the Side button and the Home button at the same time.

Take a screenshot in X on Android
- Open the X screen you want to capture.
- Press the Power button and Volume Down together.
- If that combination does not work, hold the Power button briefly and tap Screenshot in the power menu, if your device offers that option.
Android controls vary by device maker. Google says captured screenshots can be viewed and shared, and describes finding them in the device Gallery’s Screenshots folder. If neither method works, check your phone manufacturer’s support instructions. See Google’s Android screenshot guide.

Find or share the captured image
On iPhone, open Photos to find the screenshot. On Android, look in Gallery for the Screenshots folder; you can view and share the image from the device. The exact location and interface can vary by phone.
What you can capture in X
A screenshot captures what is visible on your phone screen at that moment. For example, you can open an account’s profile in the X app and tap Media to view its media timeline, then screenshot the part currently displayed. X documents the Media tab in its profile media timeline guide.

A screenshot is separate from adding media to a post. To publish an image on X, use the photo controls while composing a post; X’s posting guide explains how to capture a photo or select existing media.
