Canon lists automatic two-sided printing and a 20-sheet document feeder, but the scanner cannot scan both sides of an original automatically. Its published document speeds are modest, and Canon’s U.S. shop listing says the TR4720 is no longer available through that listing. This is a source-based review of published specifications and an independent review limitation, not a hands-on test.
What the Canon PIXMA TR4720/TR4722 does
Canon describes the TR4720 as a wireless 4-in-1 printer: it prints, copies, scans, and faxes. The manufacturer lists Wi-Fi printing, Apple AirPrint, Mopria support, and use with a Canon mobile app. It has a flatbed scanner and an automatic document feeder (ADF), so it can handle both single-page originals and small multi-page jobs. Canon lists automatic two-sided printing for letter-size plain paper. That is useful for reducing paper use on suitable print jobs, but it does not mean the scanner can capture both sides of a two-sided original automatically.

Where it fits—and where it falls short
Useful for mixed household tasks
The combination of wireless printing, copy and scan functions, fax, and a small ADF suits occasional paperwork as well as everyday print jobs. The feeder can take a short stack of originals without requiring you to place each page on the glass individually.
Limited capacity for sustained work
A 100-sheet paper supply and a 20-sheet letter-size ADF are modest capacities. If you print frequently or routinely process large batches, compare paper handling, running costs, and feeder capacity with models intended for higher volumes. The available specifications do not establish real-world throughput or cartridge cost per page.

No automatic two-sided scanning
RTINGS reports that the scanner has an ADF but does not support duplex scanning. Two-sided originals therefore require manual handling to capture the reverse sides; automatic duplex printing does not change that limitation. RTINGS’ TR4720/TR4722 review
Which ink cartridges does it use?
The TR4720 uses two cartridges: PG-275 pigment black and CL-276 dye color. Canon also lists the higher-capacity PG-275 XL black and CL-276 XL color versions as compatible. The printer requires both a black and a color cartridge to be installed, and Canon says standard and XL cartridges can be mixed.

Cartridge compatibility does not establish page yield or cost per page. The reviewed sources do not provide enough information to call this printer inexpensive or expensive to run. Check the current cartridge price and the manufacturer’s stated yield for the specific cartridge before estimating your ongoing cost. Canon’s product page also mentions PIXMA Print Plan and Auto Replenishment Service, but enrollment availability, eligibility, pricing, and terms should be confirmed directly with Canon rather than assumed.
Setup and connectivity
Canon’s Windows setup guide describes connecting the printer to Wi-Fi through Easy Wireless Connect, then downloading and installing the setup file and drivers. The guide says this installs MP Drivers and IJ Scan Utility. During the wireless connection process, a Windows computer’s own wireless connection may temporarily drop. Canon’s U.S. shop listing marks the PIXMA TR4720 as no longer available through that listing. That does not establish whether TR4720 or TR4722 units are available from other retailers or in other regions. Who should consider it?
The TR4720/TR4722 is a reasonable feature match for someone seeking a home-oriented printer with copy, scan, fax, wireless printing, and automatic duplex printing, provided its modest capacities and manual handling of double-sided scans are acceptable. It is a less suitable match for large scanning batches, frequent high-volume printing, or buyers who need verified low running costs. If comparing models, focus on current local availability, published document speeds, ADF capacity and duplex scanning, ink system and verified yields, paper capacity, connectivity, and whether fax is worth having.
