You can cancel a Chase Zelle payment only when the recipient has not yet enrolled with Zelle and Chase still offers a cancellation control for that payment. Check the payment’s details in Zelle activity. If the recipient is enrolled, Chase says the money is sent to their bank account and cannot be canceled through this process.
How to cancel a Chase Zelle payment
- Sign in to the Chase Mobile app or Chase.com.
- Open Zelle payment activity and select the payment you want to stop.
- If Chase offers Cancel This Payment, select it and follow the on-screen confirmation.
- Check the payment details afterward to confirm the updated status.
Chase’s instructions say cancellation is available only if the person you paid has not yet enrolled with Zelle. The available labels and screen layout may change as Chase updates its app or website.

Why the cancellation option may be missing
The recipient has enrolled
Chase says a payment to someone already enrolled with Zelle is sent directly to that person’s bank account and cannot be canceled. Zelle describes a completed payment as money already in the recipient’s bank account. Contact Chase promptly if you need the transaction reviewed, but do not assume an authorized completed payment can be retrieved or reversed.

The payment is still pending or its status is unclear
Zelle says a pending status may mean the recipient has not enrolled. Check the payment’s activity details for a cancellation control. If no cancellation option appears, or the status is unclear, contact Chase rather than assuming the transfer has been stopped.

If you sent money to the wrong person
Contact Chase as soon as possible and explain what happened accurately. Chase’s Digital Services Agreement says payment processing uses the email address, mobile number, or Zelle tag entered, even if it identifies someone other than the person the sender intended. That means a typo or wrong destination does not itself establish that a completed payment will be reversed. Chase directs customers to their deposit account agreement for error-resolution rights and dispute contact information.
If you suspect a scam or have a purchase dispute
For consumer scam concerns, Chase lists 1-800-935-9935, option 8. Report the circumstances promptly. A payment you authorized after being deceived is not necessarily handled like an unauthorized transaction, so describe what happened rather than assuming reimbursement is assured.

Chase says neither it nor Zelle provides purchase protection when goods are not received, arrive damaged, or do not match their description. Chase also cautions customers about sellers who insist on Zelle. A payment dispute with a seller is different from canceling a payment that remains eligible for cancellation.

What to expect after contacting Chase
Chase’s Digital Services Agreement says a payment that reaches “Funded” status typically cannot be stopped, and a payment to an already-enrolled Zelle recipient may not be canceled or revoked except as provided in the agreement. Support can review the circumstances and explain any available options, but contacting Chase is not a guarantee that an authorized payment will be recovered. For account-specific rights, consult the deposit account agreement that applies to your account.
