Possibly—but a Samsung TV’s age alone does not tell you whether it can run Netflix. Netflix says the service may no longer be available on some TVs and streaming devices made before 2015, not that every older Samsung TV has lost support. Check the app on your set, update its software if needed, and confirm support for your exact model and region before considering an upgrade.
How to check whether Netflix works on your Samsung TV
- Look for the Netflix app. Check the TV’s Home screen or its apps menu. Depending on the model, the route may start at Internet@TV, Internet/Smart Hub, or a Smart Hub button. Netflix describes these Samsung interfaces in its Samsung TV setup guide.
- If you find it, open the app and sign in. If Netflix launches and plays, your TV can access the service. That does not by itself confirm support for Ultra HD or HDR.
- If it is missing, check for a TV software update. Use the settings or system menu, following the steps in the manual or Samsung’s instructions for your exact model. Menu names and update steps can differ between TVs.
- Ask Samsung about the exact model and region. If the app is still missing or no update is available, give Samsung the complete model number and country where you use the TV. Ask whether Netflix is supported and how to find or install it. Netflix directs customers to the device manufacturer for model-specific availability.
Netflix’s supported-device guidance warns that Netflix may no longer be available on some TVs and TV streaming devices made before 2015. This is not a universal cutoff for Samsung TVs: the cited guidance does not establish that every set made before that year has stopped working.

What to do if Samsung says the app is unavailable
You can keep the TV and connect a separate, Netflix-supported streaming device, provided the device is supported where you live and the TV has a compatible input. Netflix lists Amazon Fire TV/Stick among its supported TV streaming-device families; check the requirements and regional support for the specific device before buying. Choose an option based on what you need

Netflix access is not the same as Ultra HD or HDR support
A TV that opens Netflix may not support every streaming format. For Ultra HD on Samsung, Netflix specifies a qualifying plan, a 2015-or-newer Ultra HD Samsung TV with a compatible Netflix app capable of streaming Ultra HD at 60 Hz, a steady internet connection of at least 15 Mbps, and the streaming quality setting set to Auto or High. These are Netflix’s stated Samsung Ultra HD conditions, not general minimums for watching Netflix.
