To add local broadcast channels, connect an antenna to your LG TV and run Auto Tuning. If you mean LG Channels, open that internet TV service instead. If you watch through a cable or satellite box, use the box and your provider’s lineup: scanning the TV will not add channels to a provider subscription.
How do I scan for antenna channels on my LG TV?
- Connect an antenna. Plug its cable into the TV’s antenna input and position it where it can receive local broadcasts. Reception depends on what is available at your location. LG’s antenna setup guide covers connecting a digital antenna.
- Open the channel scan menu. Press Settings on the remote, then open All Settings. The route depends on your webOS version: LG gives All Settings → Channels → Channel Tuning → Auto Tuning as an example for webOS 6.0 (2021), and All Settings → General → Channels → Channel Tuning → Auto Tuning for webOS 22 (2022). Other models may use different labels or paths.
- Run the scan. Choose Start and let Auto Tuning finish. The TV saves the received channels it finds.
If those menu names do not match your TV, check the manual or support page for your exact model; LG notes that its guide’s images and instructions can differ from a particular product. Auto Tuning searches for signals your TV can receive—it cannot create reception where no broadcast signal or compatible source is available.

How do I get local channels on an LG TV?

How do I watch LG Channels?
LG Channels is an internet-delivered live TV service, separate from an antenna scan. Connect the TV to the internet, launch LG Channels, and accept the required user agreements. LG describes the service as free, but access depends on the TV model and country.

In its US support guide, LG says supported LG Smart TVs or Smart Monitors manufactured in 2016 or later may use the service; the guide also requires wired or wireless internet. The same page says the LG Channels web service is currently available only in the United States, so check current availability for your country and model before relying on it. Why are channels missing?
The right fix depends on how you receive TV:
- Antenna connected to the TV: Run Auto Tuning again and check that the antenna cable is secure. Channels may be missing after deletion or frequency changes.
- Cable or satellite set-top box: The provider controls the channel lineup. Use the box’s controls or contact the provider if channels are missing; rescanning the TV tuner will not restore a provider’s lineup.
- Shared building system: If your TV receives service through a shared system, contact property management as well as the relevant provider.
LG lists channel deletion, changed frequencies, and cable broadcaster reorganization among possible reasons live channels go missing. Its guidance is specifically for WebOS 3.0, so menu details may differ on other versions. Read LG’s missing-channel guidance.
