Yes. Windows 11 can show lock-screen widget information without signing in or unlocking the device. But selecting a widget to open its full details requires you to sign in.
What you can see without signing in
Lock-screen widgets are designed to show glanceable updates—Microsoft Support describes them as a way to “stay informed at a glance without unlocking your device.” Microsoft identifies current weather and other information as examples. The exact items shown depend on the widgets available and configured on your device.

The broader Windows Widgets catalog can include news, weather, calendar or to-do glimpses, and recent photos, but that does not mean every widget available on the Widgets board can appear on the lock screen.

Seeing the information on the lock screen does not require sign-in. Selecting a widget to view its full details does: after you sign in, the details open in Microsoft Edge on the landing page selected by that widget’s provider.

Manage lock-screen widgets
Open Start > Settings > Personalization > Lock screen, then review the current widgets under Widgets. Microsoft’s Customize the Lock Screen in Windows support page describes these controls:
- Add: Select Add widget to browse available widgets. Only widgets that support a small size can be added to the lock screen.
- Reorder: Drag widgets into the order you want.
- Remove or customize: Use a widget’s more-options menu. Customization is available only when that widget’s provider supports it.
- Hide: Switch Widgets off to hide them from the lock screen.
How location affects the information
Microsoft says lock-screen content may be tailored using an estimate based on Windows Location service when it is enabled, or otherwise on your internet connection’s IP address. Microsoft does not specify the accuracy of that estimate on its support page.
