Sometimes—but it depends on the game and on what you mean by “same outfit.” An MMO may share appearance unlocks across an account while keeping saved looks or physical gear character-specific. Check the game’s wardrobe, binding, and eligibility rules before transferring an item or buying a cosmetic.
What “sharing an outfit” can mean
These mechanics are related, but one does not guarantee the others:

- Appearance unlock: The game records a skin or style in a collection after you obtain an item or unlock a cosmetic. Other eligible characters may be able to apply it.
- Outfit or costume unlock: A full-character appearance becomes selectable on eligible characters, sometimes account-wide.
- Item transfer: The actual piece of gear moves between characters. That depends on whether it is account-bound, character-bound (often called soulbound), or transferable.
- Saved look or template: A saved combination of skins and dyes may belong to one character even if the individual appearances are shared.
For example, Guild Wars 2’s Wardrobe announcement says the system lets players share cosmetic items across characters on an account, and that outfits bought through the Gem Store unlock for all characters on that account. That describes cosmetic access—not unrestricted movement of every physical equipment item or universal compatibility with every character.

Guild Wars 2
Guild Wars 2 distinguishes appearance access from equipment ownership. Its official Wardrobe announcement describes account-wide access to unlocked skins and purchased outfits. Separately, the Guild Wars 2 Wiki’s account-binding guide says account-bound equipment can be used by other characters on the account, while soulbound objects are restricted to one character. A full-body outfit is also distinct from applying individual equipment skins.

Saved Fashion Templates add another distinction: Guild Wars 2 Support says extra template slots unlock account-wide, but the styles and dyes saved in each template are specific to the character. Shared skins therefore do not automatically make a complete saved look appear on every alt.
World of Warcraft
Blizzard’s Legion pre-expansion notes describe unlocked appearances as account-wide, with use by other characters limited to those that can equip the item. Blizzard’s Warbands overview describes sharing collections across a Warband within one region, while class and armor eligibility still matter. Transmog interface behavior and costs can change with patches; check current in-game tooltips and the updated transmog-system information for current details.

The Elder Scrolls Online
Official forum discussions distinguish learned styles and colors from a character’s saved outfit slots. A character may be able to build an outfit using learned styles without receiving another character’s ready-made saved slot. Because this distinction is described in forum replies rather than a definitive current support article, verify the outfit-station and slot rules in-game if they affect your decision. See the discussions on outfit stations and whether outfits are account-wide.
What to check before using a look on an alt
- Find the unlock scope. Look for whether the game calls the collection account-wide, character-wide, Warband-wide, or something else. A shared collection does not necessarily mean shared saved outfits.
- Check the item’s binding. Determine whether the physical gear is account-bound, character-bound or soulbound, or transferable through a bank or shared inventory. Guild Wars 2’s support article on game versions and digital items is one place to check item-specific restrictions.
- Confirm character eligibility. A skin may be unavailable to an alt because of class, armor type, race, faction, level, or equipment-slot requirements.
- Identify what the cosmetic unlocks. It may grant a full outfit, add a skin to a collection, provide a one-character item, or require you to apply a look to individual gear.
- Check saved slots and dyes. Find out whether templates, outfit slots, and dye choices are account-shared or must be recreated for each character.
- Look for application costs. Changing an appearance may consume in-game currency or a cosmetic charge; check the current interface or tooltip before applying it.
Why the answer varies by game
“Outfit sharing” is not one universal MMO feature. One game may share unlocked appearances across an account, another may keep them character-specific, and another may share the underlying styles while keeping saved configurations separate. Even within one game, an account-wide cosmetic unlock does not override gear binding or character eligibility. Use the current rules for the specific game, region, edition, and patch rather than assuming that an item or appearance behaves the same way elsewhere.
