Yes. WhatsApp lets you use up to two accounts on one mobile device through its multiple-account feature. You need a separate phone number for the second account, and you must be able to verify it. A dual-SIM phone or eSIM alone does not create another WhatsApp account.
What you need for a second WhatsApp account
- A second phone number, separate from the one registered to your first account.
- Access to SMS or a phone call on that number so you can receive its verification code. WhatsApp’s number registration guide says to register a number you own and can verify.
- A supported mobile device. WhatsApp’s operating-system guidance lists Android 6.0 or newer and iOS 15.1 or newer. It says iOS 15.5 or newer will be required starting November 30, 2026; these are the app’s general support requirements, not a separately stated minimum for multiple accounts.
The account is associated with the phone number you verified, not with a SIM slot. Dual SIM or eSIM can make a second number available, but you still need to register that number as a separate account.

How to add and switch accounts
WhatsApp’s published setup flow is to add the second account from the mobile device where your primary account is already set up. Button placement and labels can differ by platform or app version.

- Open WhatsApp and go to Settings.
- Select the add-account control beside your profile name.
- Accept the terms, enter the second phone number, and verify it with the code sent by SMS or phone call.
- Complete the second account’s profile.
- To change accounts later, open the account menu and select the account you want to use.
WhatsApp’s account-switching help page says the feature supports two accounts. Each account can have its own profile photo, About information, notification preferences, and privacy settings. Notifications for messages and calls can still arrive while an account is inactive; switch to that account to view its content.

Two WhatsApp accounts versus linked devices
These solve different problems. Multiple accounts let you register and switch between two accounts on one mobile device. Linking a companion device gives access to an account on another device; it does not create a second account or turn WhatsApp Web or desktop into an account switcher. WhatsApp currently describes multiple-account support as mobile-only, and says a companion device can be paired with the secondary account.
Using WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business
Using the standard WhatsApp app alongside WhatsApp Business is another option, separate from the in-app account switcher. WhatsApp’s registration guidance says each app needs a unique phone number. Its account-switching help page says switching accounts is not available in WhatsApp Business, so do not assume the same in-app flow applies there.

If you can’t add the second account
WhatsApp recommends restarting the phone, switching between Wi-Fi and cellular data, and making sure the app is updated. Also confirm that the second number can receive its verification code. Changing which SIM is active does not itself change the WhatsApp account’s registered number; the account remains tied to the verified number unless you change the number in WhatsApp. See WhatsApp’s guidance on switching accounts and using multiple phone numbers or accounts.
