No. An older MagSafe or MagSafe 2 cable or power adapter will not connect to a MacBook’s MagSafe 3 port. Apple explicitly says the older adapters are not compatible with MagSafe 3. For magnetic charging, use a USB-C power adapter and a USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable; supported MacBooks can also charge through USB-C.
Why older MagSafe chargers do not work with MagSafe 3
Apple treats original MagSafe, MagSafe 2, and MagSafe 3 as distinct connector generations. A connector that looks similar or is magnetic is not evidence that it will fit or charge the MacBook. Apple’s guidance is explicit: “MagSafe 2 and MagSafe power adapters aren’t compatible with MagSafe 3.” Apple’s MagSafe cable and adapter guidance also says the MagSafe-to-MagSafe 2 converter is not compatible with MagSafe 3.

What to use instead
For the MagSafe 3 port
The charging chain is a USB-C power adapter, a USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable, and the MacBook. The adapter and cable are separate components; an older MagSafe adapter does not plug directly into the MagSafe 3 cable. Apple lists a 2 m USB-C to MagSafe 3 replacement cable. Choose the adapter wattage based on your exact Mac model and intended charging behavior. Apple’s replacement and compatibility information

Many MacBooks with MagSafe 3 can also charge through a USB-C port, using a compatible USB-C power adapter or display. Apple notes that an adapter with lower or higher wattage than the recommended one can charge a Mac that supports USB-C charging, but charging behavior and fast-charge support vary by model. Check Apple’s adapter recommendations for your Mac before choosing a charger.

Check whether your Mac has MagSafe 3
Apple identifies MacBook Air models introduced in 2022 or later and MacBook Pro models introduced in 2021 or later as MagSafe 3 groups, with one stated exception: the 13-inch M2 MacBook Pro introduced in 2022. These are model-family guidelines, not a substitute for checking the exact Mac and its recommended adapter. Use Apple’s model-specific power-adapter guidance, particularly if fast charging matters.
Fast charging depends on the Mac and charger combination
Apple says compatible MacBook Air models introduced in 2022 or later, and 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models introduced in 2021 or later, can charge to about 50 percent in around 30 minutes with specified combinations of Mac, adapter, and cable. This is a conditional capability, not a promise for every MagSafe 3 MacBook, adapter, or cable. See Apple’s fast-charge requirements for the combinations that apply to a particular model.

If your charger or cable is faulty
If an otherwise compatible cable or adapter is not working, Apple recommends having it evaluated by Apple or an Apple Authorised Service Provider. Its MagSafe troubleshooting page covers service guidance and replacement options.
