A Samsung Galaxy phone can connect to a Chromebook using Google’s Android phone features. Depending on the devices, software versions, and any work or school restrictions, you can use phone notifications, texts, recent photos, Quick Share, phone tethering, and Smart Lock. These are Android-ChromeOS features, not Samsung-only features.
How do you connect a Samsung phone to a Chromebook?
Both devices should be signed in to the same Google Account. You can connect them during Chromebook setup by choosing quick setup with an Android phone and scanning the QR code shown on the Chromebook. To connect later:

Google’s general connection guide lists ChromeOS 71 or later and Android 6 or later. Its separate Phone Hub guide lists ChromeOS M89 or later and Android 5.1 or later; those are requirements for different documented entry points and features, not one universal minimum. See Google’s Android phone connection guide and Phone Hub guide.

View phone information and control selected features
Open Phone Hub by selecting the phone icon near the Chromebook’s system tray. It can show your phone’s cell signal and battery status, recent Gallery photos and screenshots, Chrome tabs, and notifications. Depending on what you enable, it can also provide quick controls such as turning on the phone’s hotspot or locating and silencing the phone. You can manage available features under Settings → Connected devices. Some actions may need a connection even though Google says Phone Hub features can remain available when the Chromebook is offline.

Can a Chromebook use a Samsung phone’s hotspot?
Yes, if the Chromebook supports Instant Tethering and the devices meet Google’s requirements: ChromeOS 71 or later, Android 8.1 or later, and the same Google Account on both. Turn on Bluetooth, then choose the phone from the Chromebook’s available device hotspots. Check your carrier’s terms first: some carriers limit or charge for instant hotspot use. Tethering can also use more of the phone’s battery. Details are in Google’s Instant Tethering guide.
Can you unlock a Chromebook with a Samsung phone?
Google’s Smart Lock feature can use a nearby Android phone to unlock a Chromebook. Google lists these requirements: the Chromebook and phone use the same Google Account, the Chromebook has internet access, Bluetooth is enabled on the unlocked phone, and the phone has a screen lock configured. Smart Lock is enabled by default after connecting according to Google, and can be turned off in connected-device settings. Work or school policies may block it. See Google’s Smart Lock instructions.
Does Phone Hub stream Samsung phone apps to a Chromebook?
That compatibility is not established by the general Google guidance. Google names Pixel 4A or later, Nothing Phone (1) and (2), and select Xiaomi models (12T, 12T Pro, 13, and 13 Pro) for Phone Hub app streaming. The phone must run Android 13 or later, be close to the Chromebook, and share its Wi-Fi network; some networks may not work. Samsung’s Galaxy Chromebook Plus instructions describe app streaming but do not identify compatible phone models. So do not assume a Galaxy phone can stream its apps through Phone Hub just because it is paired with a Chromebook. Streaming phone apps is also different from installing Android apps directly on a Chromebook.

Quick Recap
What should you check if a feature is missing?
- Check the version for that specific feature. Phone connection, Quick Share, Instant Tethering, and Smart Lock have different documented requirements.
- Confirm account and connection settings. The same Google Account is required for the documented connection and tethering setup; Bluetooth is needed for Smart Lock and when selecting a phone for Instant Tethering.
- Check Chromebook support and carrier terms. Instant Tethering requires a supported Chromebook, and carrier restrictions or charges can affect hotspot use.
- Ask the administrator if the Chromebook is managed. A work or school administrator may restrict connected-phone features.
- Verify streaming separately. Pairing a Samsung phone does not establish that its apps are eligible for Phone Hub streaming.
