You can import a RuneScape character into a Jagex Account to manage it with Jagex Account credentials, but you cannot transfer its progress to Old School RuneScape. The two games use separate profiles: stats, items, and character information do not carry over. If you mean consolidating your login rather than moving game progress, you can import your character into a Jagex Account.
What “transfer” means in RuneScape
There are two different actions players may mean:
- Move progress between games: This is not supported. RuneScape and Old School RuneScape have independent profiles, so an Old School character starts with its own progress.
- Manage a character through a Jagex Account: This is supported. Importing a character changes how you sign in and manage it; it does not move the character’s progress between games.
Jagex explains that the games’ profile progress is independent, and that character information, stats, and items do not transfer between them: RuneScape and Old School.

Import a RuneScape character into a Jagex Account
Use this route if you want your existing character managed under Jagex Account credentials. Before starting, make sure you can access the email address you intend to use and that you have selected the Jagex Account you want to keep.

- Follow the prompts to create a Jagex Account or use an existing one.
- After import, sign in with the Jagex Account through the Jagex Launcher or the relevant official mobile app, then select the character.
If you already have a Jagex Account, open its character management and choose Import existing to add another character. Jagex’s instructions are in Upgrade your RuneScape character to a Jagex Account and Add a RuneScape character to your Jagex Account.

Check before importing
- Jagex says a Jagex Account can hold up to 20 characters.
- Importing is a one-way choice: the old RuneScape login details become invalid after the upgrade.
- Imported characters cannot be removed or moved to another Jagex Account, and separate Jagex Accounts cannot be merged.
These limits make the destination account important. Review Jagex’s guidance on removing a character from a Jagex Account before you commit.
If your character uses a third-party or mobile login
Characters created with Google, Apple, Steam, Facebook, Axeso5, or UOL have a documented upgrade/import route. Authenticate the character using Jagex’s instructions for that sign-in method, then import it to the Jagex Account you intend to use. Start from the relevant Jagex support instructions for third-party login upgrades.

For a Game Center character, Jagex’s documented route is to open the Old School RuneScape app, continue with Game Center, open Account Management, and select Link email. Jagex notes that the character may need to progress through Tutorial Island before that option appears. Follow the current Game Center character upgrade instructions for the exact flow.

Your RuneScape and Old School RuneScape characters remain separate even when accessed through the same Jagex Account. Your stats, items, and other character information in one version do not become part of the other version’s profile. Choose the version whose profile you want to play; to experience the other game, create or use its separate character and begin there.

Membership is a separate matter from progress. Jagex’s FAQ says membership purchased for a character applies to both RuneScape and Old School RuneScape versions of that game character; shared membership does not combine the profiles. The FAQ also says the Jagex Launcher supports the official RuneScape and Old School clients and RuneLite: Jagex Accounts FAQ.

Use Jagex’s official account settings and support pages for imports. Jagex recommends enabling two-step authentication when upgrading and warns players about fake websites that ask for login details. Do not enter credentials into a site another player offers as a way to transfer stats, items, or gold.

Importing your own character into a Jagex Account is not the same as giving the account to another person. Jagex’s Rules of RuneScape prohibit sharing, transferring, or lending an account to someone else. They also warn that swapping gold or items between RuneScape and Old School RuneScape carries risks; Jagex says it cannot help if such an agreement goes wrong.
