No—not directly. YouTube’s documented RSS workflow imports selected podcast episodes as videos; YouTube Live uses an incoming audio/video stream from a live encoder workflow. To play an episode during a live event, send its audio along with a compatible visual stream into a YouTube broadcast. YouTube’s RSS instructions do not confirm whether password-protected or otherwise authenticated feeds can be imported, so do not rely on that without checking with YouTube or your podcast host.
RSS ingestion and YouTube Live do different jobs
| Question | RSS episode ingestion | Live encoder broadcast |
|---|---|---|
| What you provide | A podcast RSS URL and the episodes you select | An incoming audio/video stream sent through a live workflow |
| What YouTube creates | Episode videos, using the podcast’s show art, and a podcast playlist | A viewer-facing live event |
| Privacy | Episodes are initially uploaded as private; visibility can be selected for new RSS uploads. After the podcast is published, episodes are public by default unless you change visibility. | A broadcast can be public, private, or unlisted. Private is limited to invited viewers; unlisted is accessible to anyone with the link. |
| Private-feed access | YouTube asks for feed ownership verification using a code sent to the email address in the feed. Whether authenticated feed URLs are supported is not stated in the official instructions. | YouTube does not need to pull the RSS feed; you send episode audio through the live workflow. |
| Regional availability | RSS delivery is available only in listed countries or regions; check the current eligibility list. | The cited API overview does not establish a regional restriction for this use case. |
YouTube describes RSS delivery as a way to create videos for selected podcast episodes—not as a live input. In contrast, its Live Streaming API documentation describes an incoming stream carrying audio and video that is associated with a broadcast. Neither workflow makes the other unnecessary: use RSS to distribute episodes as podcast videos, and a live encoder workflow to air an episode as part of a live event.

If you want to publish podcast episodes as videos
Use YouTube Studio’s RSS delivery option if your channel is in an eligible region and the feed meets YouTube’s setup and ownership-verification requirements. YouTube creates videos using the podcast’s show art. The episodes selected during initial setup upload as private; you can choose visibility for new RSS uploads. After publishing the podcast, episodes are public by default unless you change their visibility.
The connection process asks for the RSS URL and verifies ownership with a code sent to the email address listed in the feed. The official setup information does not say whether a password-protected URL, token URL, or other authenticated feed is accepted. If your feed requires authentication, confirm compatibility with YouTube or your podcast host before depending on RSS import.

If you want an episode to play during a live event
- Create a YouTube Live broadcast. Choose the broadcast’s audience setting before sharing it: private for explicitly invited viewers, or unlisted for anyone who has the link. Public is also available if the event should be open to everyone.
- Use a live encoder workflow. Provide the episode’s audio and a compatible visual stream as the incoming audio/video feed for the broadcast. YouTube’s cited API overview explains the relationship between the incoming stream and broadcast but does not require a particular encoder brand, computer, microphone, or hardware model.
- Test the audio and visual output before the event. Confirm that the episode can be heard and that the visual stream is present. The official material cited here does not prescribe specific encoder settings or a particular playback method.
- Check rights before going live. Review music, clips, and other third-party material in the episode; a private or unlisted audience does not exempt a stream from YouTube’s live copyright matching process.
Copyright can affect private and unlisted live streams
YouTube says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” If it identifies third-party content, YouTube may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn you; if the content remains, it can interrupt or terminate the stream. Even if you have a licence, the rights holder may need to add your channel to a Content ID allowlist.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is to keep uploaded podcast audio playing on YouTube around the clock, StreamNeo is a cloud option rather than a direct RSS connection. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed.
