Usually, archive processing is not documented as a reason you cannot start another YouTube livestream. YouTube says creators can broadcast multiple live streams at once, up to a limit. But its help pages do not explicitly confirm the exact case of starting a new stream while the previous stream’s archive is still processing, so this is not a guarantee.
What YouTube’s guidance does—and doesn’t—say
- YouTube says creators can repeat the setup process to broadcast multiple live streams at once, up to a limit. The cited guidance does not specify the limit or discuss an archive that is still processing.
- YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived after they end. That describes what happens to the ended stream; it does not say how long processing takes or that processing blocks a later stream.
- So if your previous stream is processing, you can try setting up and starting the next one. YouTube’s published guidance does not identify the processing status as a blocker, but does not directly address that precise scenario.
How to start the next livestream
- Check that your channel is eligible. YouTube’s live-streaming tips say the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days.
- Set up the intended stream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create or select the correct stream. For an encoder workflow, use the server URL and stream key associated with that stream.
- Start the encoder. For a scheduled stream, wait for its preview in Live Control Room and select Go live.
- Use the displayed error as your clue if it fails. Check the error in YouTube Studio, confirm the stream selection and encoder URL/key, and verify eligibility. Do not assume that waiting for the previous archive to finish will fix the problem unless the error or YouTube support indicates that it will.
If you’re concerned about copyright interruptions
Archive processing and copyright checks are separate issues. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a copyright match can lead to a warning, interruption, or termination. An ended stream’s archive processing status does not establish whether the content in a new broadcast is cleared for use.
