Can you play The Sims 4 with friends?
EA’s official The Sims 4 page lists the game as free to play and available on PC, Mac, PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, and Epic. That availability does not mean every platform supports mods or simultaneous multiplayer. The official option for enjoying friends’ creations is the Gallery; for live play, a community mod called S4MP advertises network play on Windows.

What can you do together through the Gallery?
The Gallery is EA’s built-in space to see, share, and add player-made Sims, homes, and rooms. EA says players can download, like, and comment on creations. You and a friend can exchange designs and add them to your own game, but this is asynchronous sharing: you are not controlling the same household in a live session.

Can S4MP let you play Sims 4 multiplayer?
S4MP is an unofficial community mod whose listing advertises real-time network play, with players living together in one household. Its CurseForge listing is for Windows. The listing checked on October 7, 2026 showed version 0.76.1, released September 12, 2026, and included support for Sims 4 game versions such as 1.127.41. These details can change with mod and game updates; check the listing for the current release and supported game build before installing. Those are the creator’s claims, not an EA guarantee.
Check compatibility and protect your save
EA says it does not pre-screen, endorse, or support specific mods or custom content. EA also warns that mods can stop working after a game update. Follow EA’s mod and game-update guidance and the mod creator’s current instructions.

- First launch The Sims 4 with mods disabled to confirm the base game works.
- Check the S4MP listing for compatibility with your installed game version and for current installation instructions.
- Re-enable mods in Game Options only after checking compatibility, then relaunch and test.
- After a game update, check for a compatible mod update before using it again.
EA warns that saving while mods or custom content are disabled may remove that content from a save. Avoid saving a modded household in that state if you want to preserve its custom content.

Does the Sims 4 Marketplace add multiplayer?
No. The Sims 4 Marketplace is EA’s storefront for downloadable content, including Maker Packs from approved Sims Makers and EA-made expansions, game packs, stuff packs, and kits. EA says purchases of Maker Packs support their creators. Marketplace content can give you more material for personalizing a shared creative idea, but it does not enable live multiplayer. EA lists Marketplace access on PC, Mac, and console, in-game, on the web, and through the EA app.

What about Project Rene?
In an January 9, 2026 update, EA described Project Rene as a social multiplayer experience separate from The Sims 4 and from a future deep single-player life simulation. That update does not establish current general availability, test access, launch timing, region, or supported devices. Check EA’s latest announcements for confirmed access details rather than assuming it is available to play.
