According to the publisher, PvP is optional. The Deep Desert has separate PvE and PvP instances; the PvP instance offers greater risk and reward. That gives players who want to avoid direct competition a PvE route, while leaving the higher-risk option available to those who want it.

Funcom also describes broad gameplay customization. Players can adjust settings such as harvesting rates, experience gain, and death penalties, and control sandstorms and other elements. The practical benefit is choice: newcomers can reduce survival friction, while players who want a tougher run can retain more of it. The available launch materials establish that these controls exist, but do not independently assess how well each difficulty setting is balanced.

Xbox Wire says Series X renders at a higher native resolution in both modes and adds enhanced visuals. Funcom also says the console UI and controls have been tailored for consoles. Neither statement replaces independent testing, so players especially concerned about frame pacing or image quality should look for platform-specific measurements before buying on that basis.
Where can you play it, and is there a physical PS5 edition?
Bandai Namco reports the game and update available on PS5 and Xbox, with the update also on PC. The publisher also announced Xbox Game Pass availability and Xbox Play Anywhere progression support; Xbox Wire names Cloud Gaming as well. Bandai Namco reports that a physical PS5 edition is available through retail and online stores. Its announcement names Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe for EMEA, Australia, and New Zealand; Solutions 2 GO for the Americas; and Spike Chunsoft in Japan, with an October 29, 2026 release date there. Retail stock and the contents of individual editions were not established in the announcement, so confirm those details with a local seller.

Who should give the update a try?
The strongest case is for players who held off because the game felt too multiplayer-focused or punishing. Funcom says the whole game can be played solo, settings can be tuned, and PvP can be avoided; Book One also reaches its conclusion with this update. Dune fans who want to explore Arrakis at their own pace and survival-game newcomers who want adjustable difficulty are the clearest fits.
