Can You Order DoorDash by Text? U.S. iOS Beta Waitlist Opens

DoorDash announced a beta for ordering in a text thread and opened a waitlist for U.S. iOS consumers. Applying is not the same as immediate access, and no general-release date has been announced.

DoorDash announced a text-ordering beta on September 30, 2026, and U.S. consumers using iOS can apply through its waitlist. It is an invitation path, not a generally available way for every customer to order: DoorDash has not announced a general-release date. Join the waitlist at DoorDash.com/text.

How to join the DoorDash text-ordering waitlist

  1. Open doordash.com/text.
  2. Apply through the waitlist. DoorDash’s Dash Forward recap identifies the initial audience as U.S. consumers on iOS.
  3. If invited, follow the instructions DoorDash provides to use the beta. Applying does not establish immediate access or confirm when an invitation will arrive.

DoorDash has not stated a general-release date. Eligibility or waitlist availability may change.

What ordering by text is meant to do

DoorDash describes the beta as a way to discover food and build an order in a text conversation, then complete checkout after confirming in that thread. You can text a dish you want, ask for a nearby recommendation, or request a familiar order. DoorDash says it searches local restaurants and menus, suggests a cart, and can send food photos from restaurant listings.

The company also says the assistant can take preferences such as skipping cilantro or adding extra sauce into account, and handle dietary needs and quantities for group orders. These are DoorDash’s descriptions of the beta, not independently verified results. Its announcement gives examples such as “order my usual” and “order my usual protein bowl to the office”; those examples do not guarantee that every phrase will work for every participant.

How text ordering relates to Ask DoorDash

DoorDash presents text ordering as an extension of Ask DoorDash, its in-app conversational assistant. The company introduced Ask DoorDash in June 2026 for natural-language restaurant search and grocery shopping in select U.S. iOS areas. The text beta moves a described discovery-and-ordering flow into a message thread; it is distinct from using Ask DoorDash inside the app.

DoorDash also discussed grocery restocking and cheaper equivalent swaps in the app. Those are app features, not evidence that the text-ordering beta supports grocery orders or price swaps.

What DoorDash’s figures say about Ask DoorDash—and what they don’t

DoorDash reported that Ask DoorDash helped consumers discover more than 40,000 new restaurants in its first three months, based on restaurant orders from June through August 2026. The company said nearly half of those orders went to local spots the consumer had never tried before. These are company-reported figures about Ask DoorDash, not measured outcomes for text ordering.

What DoorDash has announced

DoorDash’s release quotes co-founder Andy Fang: “Managing tasks like ordering lunch or groceries shouldn’t feel like work.” The announcement describes the intended convenience of the feature, but does not provide independent performance testing or a date for broader availability.
