Yes—but only some U.S. iPhone users can try it so far. DoorDash began a beta on September 30, 2026, that lets customers ask an AI agent to build an order in an iMessage conversation. It is not a general replacement for the DoorDash app, and Android support is planned rather than available at launch.
What DoorDash’s text-ordering beta does
DoorDash says the beta brings its Ask DoorDash assistant, previously available in the app, into iMessage. Instead of browsing restaurant and menu screens, a customer can describe what they want in a text conversation. The agent looks for relevant local restaurants, menus, and photos, then presents a proposed order in the chat.

For example, a customer could ask for their usual protein bowl delivered to the office, request recommendations, or start a group order. DoorDash says the agent can remember preferences and customizations, such as a preference for extra sauce, and account for different habits on Friday nights and midweek.

How ordering and checkout work
- Describe the order. Send a request in the iMessage conversation, such as a usual meal, a request for suggestions, or a group order.
- Review the proposal. The agent searches relevant local restaurant options and menus, then shares its proposed order in the text thread.
- Confirm before checkout. The agent waits for the customer’s confirmation. After confirmation, it handles checkout.
The confirmation step means the agent does not simply place the proposed order without the customer’s approval. Reporting on the beta does not establish order-accuracy results, a speed advantage, or pricing differences compared with ordering in the DoorDash app.

Who can use it, and how to join
The rollout is a U.S. beta, initially limited to iPhone users because it runs through iMessage. DoorDash has said Android support is planned, but has not established an Android launch date. To check access or join the waitlist, visit doordash.com/text.
Access is not universal: the waitlist and beta status mean the feature should not be treated as available to every DoorDash customer. The DoorDash app remains the established alternative for customers who cannot access the text beta or prefer app-based ordering.
