A subscriber count that appears hidden is not listed as a reason you cannot livestream. YouTube says channels can no longer hide subscriber counts, and live eligibility depends on your account and streaming method—not on whether the count is visible.
Why does my YouTube subscriber count look hidden?
YouTube removed the option for channels to hide subscriber counts. In an August 2022 response, a TeamYouTube employee said counts would be made public as the change rolled out, while noting that some channels might take time to reflect it. That dated explanation describes the original rollout; it does not establish why a particular channel’s count might be absent now. YouTube’s current live-stream guidance treats count visibility separately from streaming eligibility.

What are YouTube’s general livestream requirements?
For livestreaming generally, YouTube says your channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and meet the minimum age requirement of 16. The general eligibility page does not state a subscriber minimum for every streaming method.

- The adjustable universal clip lets you attach the camera securely to your screen or laptop, or fold the clip and set the webcam on a shelf. You’re always ready for your next video call.
- Channel verification: Your channel must be verified.
- Recent restrictions: You must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days.
- Age: You must be at least 16 years old to livestream.
These are general requirements, not a guarantee that a particular account is eligible; check your account status and the requirements for your chosen method. YouTube’s general live-streaming help page lists mobile, webcam, encoder, and console as ways to stream.
Does the 50-subscriber minimum apply to every livestream?
No. YouTube states a minimum of 50 subscribers for livestreaming from a mobile device. Its cited general eligibility guidance does not state that same subscriber threshold for webcam, encoder, or console streams, so do not assume the mobile minimum applies to those methods.

What if I have fewer than 1,000 subscribers and want to stream from mobile?
YouTube may limit the audience for mobile livestreams from channels with 50–999 subscribers. The stream archive is set to private by default. YouTube says access to mobile streaming is retained unless the channel falls below 50 subscribers.

If your channel reaches 1,000 subscribers, audience limits may not disappear immediately: YouTube says processing can take several weeks. The 1,000-subscriber figure relates to mobile audience safeguards, not a universal minimum for going live.
First-time setup: mobile and other methods
Set up mobile livestreaming
- Meet the mobile requirements: Have at least 50 subscribers, verify your channel, and make sure you have no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube’s mobile guidance lists Android 8.0 or later and iOS 8 or later.
- Enable live streaming: If this is your first time, YouTube says activation can take up to 24 hours.
- Start the mobile stream: Once enabled, use YouTube’s mobile livestream flow. If you have fewer than 1,000 subscribers, account for possible audience limits and the private-by-default archive.
Choose another streaming method
YouTube also lists webcam, encoder, and console streaming. The general eligibility page does not state a subscriber minimum for these methods. An encoder can be software or hardware; choosing one is a production decision, not a way to bypass verification, age, or restriction requirements. Follow the setup flow for the method you select in YouTube’s live-streaming help or, for an encoder, YouTube’s encoder instructions.

Troubleshooting: why can’t I go live?
- You’re trying to stream from a phone with fewer than 50 subscribers: You do not meet YouTube’s stated mobile threshold. The general eligibility page does not state that same threshold for webcam, encoder, or console methods.
- Live streaming is not enabled yet: First-time activation may take up to 24 hours. Wait for activation before trying again.
- Your channel is not verified: Complete YouTube’s channel-verification requirement.
- Your channel has a recent livestream restriction: YouTube requires no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days.
- You are under 16: YouTube’s general guidance sets 16 as the minimum age for livestreaming.
- Your count still appears hidden: The hide-count option was removed, but the 2022 rollout statement does not diagnose current display issues for individual channels. Check the channel’s current public display and account status; do not treat the apparent absence of a count as proof of livestream ineligibility.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep prerecorded videos looping on a YouTube channel around the clock, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload your video or make a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting from a camera; your computer and home connection do not need to stay on. It supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, and it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. For a live-camera broadcast, use YouTube’s regular mobile, webcam, encoder, or console workflows instead. Try StreamNeo’s free first day.
