Yes. To hide one person’s future comments from everyone else, use Instagram’s Restrict control. Their new comments on your posts remain visible to them, but other people will not see them unless you choose to approve them. The person can still comment; Restrict does not disable commenting.
What happens when you restrict someone?
Meta says comments on your posts from a restricted account are visible only to that person. You can review each comment and approve it so others can see it, delete it, or leave it hidden. Meta also says you will not receive notifications for comments from a restricted account. Meta’s 2024 description of Restrict and its safety guidance describe this as a way to quietly limit interactions.

This applies to comments the person makes after the restriction is enabled; it should not be treated as a promise that every earlier comment is removed. Meta’s guidance describes Restrict as a subtle control, but does not guarantee that the other person can never infer a restriction from other interactions.

Which Instagram control fits your situation?
| Your goal | Control | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Hide one person’s future comments from other viewers | Restrict | Their new comments on your posts are visible only to them unless you approve them. |
| Filter comments containing particular language | Hidden Words | Filters detected offensive language and terms, phrases, or emojis you choose. Meta says matching comments do not appear under the post. |
| Respond to a sudden wave of unwanted interactions | Limits | Hides comments and message requests from people who do not follow you or who followed recently. Meta also describes an option to limit people outside Close Friends. |
| Set a broader boundary around who can interact | Comment, tag, and mention controls | Lets you narrow who may comment, tag, or mention your account. |
| Stop someone from interacting more broadly | Block | A broader measure than hiding comments; it is not equivalent to Restrict. |
When to use Hidden Words or Limits instead
Hidden Words filters language, not a particular person
Use Hidden Words when you want to filter comments based on words, phrases, or emojis, including language Instagram detects as offensive. It is not a way to single out a named account. Meta says comments matching these filters do not appear beneath the post. Its guidance is available in the 2024 safety article and the Safety Center.

Limits addresses a group or a surge
Choose Limits when unwanted comments or message requests are arriving from a broader group, such as non-followers or people who followed recently. Unlike Restrict, it is not designed to quietly hide one selected person’s comments.
How to find the controls
Instagram’s exact menu labels and paths can vary by app version, device, and account. Look in the app’s Privacy settings or comment controls for Restrict, Hidden Words, Limits, and audience settings. Check the current in-app labels rather than relying on a fixed tap-by-tap path.
