Yes. You can edit an existing iPhone Lock Screen—changing its clock, widgets, controls, or photo framing—without choosing a new wallpaper. Open the Lock Screen gallery and customize the screen already in use; avoid the option to add or select a new wallpaper.
How to customize your Lock Screen and keep its wallpaper

On the Lock Screen, touch and hold until the wallpaper gallery appears. If it does not open, touch and hold again; enter your passcode if prompted.

Swipe to the Lock Screen you want to edit, then tap Customize.

Select the element you want to change, such as the clock, widgets, controls, or photo. Make your edits without choosing a different wallpaper.

What you can change without replacing the background
- Clock: Adjust its appearance, including font and transparency; Apple’s current guide also describes changing clock height.
- Widgets: Add or change glanceable information. Lock Screen widgets require iOS 16 or later, according to Apple’s widget instructions.
- Controls: Change Lock Screen controls, such as the flashlight control, where the option is available.
- Photo framing and style: Reposition the current photo or try an available style or filter. The choices depend on the wallpaper, and some effects require a compatible image.
These are separate edits to the existing Lock Screen, not a requirement to pick another photo. Apple says certain photos can be used as 3D spatial wallpapers on iPhone 12 or later with iOS 26; image eligibility also matters. This optional effect is not needed for ordinary Lock Screen customization. See Apple’s wallpaper instructions.

Keep the Lock Screen and Home Screen backgrounds separate
You can use different backgrounds for the two screens. In Apple’s wallpaper flow, choose Customize Home Screen after adding a wallpaper to create or edit a separate Home Screen background. That lets you change the Home Screen without replacing the Lock Screen image, or keep the Home Screen as-is while customizing the existing Lock Screen.

When to use other Lock Screen options
- Multiple Lock Screens: Create more than one setup and switch between them if you want different looks or widget arrangements. This is optional; it is not necessary to edit the current screen.
- Focus links: Link a Lock Screen to a Focus if you want that setup associated with a particular Focus. This is also optional.
- Photo Shuffle: Choose photos or an album and set a rotation frequency such as On Tap, On Lock, Hourly, or Daily. Because it changes which image appears, Photo Shuffle is not the right choice if you want one fixed wallpaper to remain displayed.
