Can you still use Alexa with a Wemo Insight?
No—not through Wemo’s official Alexa integration. Belkin’s support notice says that the Wemo app and cloud-based features, including remote access and voice-assistant integrations such as Amazon Alexa, stopped functioning for affected products on January 31, 2026. The Wemo Insight is included in Belkin’s affected-product information.

Belkin once described the Insight as offering hands-free Alexa voice control, but that was the product’s former capability, not a current setup option. Its historical setup instructions identify the Insight as model F7C029 and specify a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. Those instructions explain the original setup; following them now cannot restore the discontinued service. Belkin’s historical Insight setup guide and product bulletin document those earlier details.
What to check when the plug stops responding
Basic checks can help distinguish a local power, appliance, or network fault from the Alexa shutdown. They cannot bring back Wemo’s cloud integration.

- Check power and the appliance. Confirm the plug is seated in a working outlet, then test the appliance directly in that outlet. If the plug cannot switch manually or appears to have no power, the problem may be electrical or hardware-related rather than Alexa discovery.
- Check Wi-Fi only if diagnosing a local connection issue. Belkin’s old setup guidance specifies 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Amazon’s general troubleshooting also recommends checking the device’s listed network and router connection; most Wi-Fi smart-home devices use 2.4 GHz. These checks may reveal a separate network fault, but they do not restart Wemo cloud services. Amazon’s smart-home troubleshooting guidance covers generic connection checks.
- Don’t expect a skill relink or app reinstall to restore Alexa. Amazon’s general advice for a device that works in its manufacturer app but not in Alexa includes reactivating the related skill. That generic step does not apply as a fix here: Belkin says the Wemo app and cloud-dependent Alexa integration ended for affected products.
- Check any existing Apple Home setup before changing it. Belkin says qualifying devices configured with HomeKit before January 31, 2026 may continue working locally through Apple Home. The Insight is not listed as HomeKit-compatible in Belkin’s affected-product table, so confirm the exact model and its existing configuration. This is not an Alexa workaround; new setup or reconfiguration after the cutoff is unavailable.
- Review Belkin’s remedy information. Belkin says an affected product that was still under warranty on or after the cutoff may be eligible for a refund, with proof of purchase required. Eligibility is not guaranteed; check the official notice and support form for your device and circumstances.
Can you replace it with a smart plug that works with Alexa?
A Matter smart plug that explicitly supports Alexa is a reasonable replacement category if you need basic appliance on/off control. Amazon documents Matter smart plugs and says supported Echo devices can commission and control Matter products locally. Matter support alone does not guarantee that a particular plug will work with every Echo or be sold in your country.
Before buying, verify the exact plug model’s Alexa and Matter support, availability in your region, electrical rating, appliance load, and physical fit. Also check Amazon’s list of Matter-compatible Echo devices. Amazon’s Matter support documentation describes the supported-device and setup context.

Amazon’s general Alexa smart-plug setup instructions cover adding a compatible plug in the Alexa app and note that most Wi-Fi devices use 2.4 GHz. Amazon has also documented Alexa control of TP-Link Kasa plugs, but that older example does not establish current Matter support or availability for a particular Kasa model. Check the exact model rather than assuming the whole product line qualifies. Amazon’s Kasa example is from 2020.
Check the Insight’s electrical rating before reusing it
A historical Wemo product bulletin lists a rating of 120 V, 15 A, 60 Hz, and 1,800 W for the documented variant. Ratings can differ by region and model, so read the label on your own device and confirm it is suitable for the appliance. Do not rely on the bulletin’s figures as a universal rating.
