You cannot use a PS5 as a screen for Nintendo Switch games: the PS5’s HDMI port sends video out to a display; it does not accept Switch video. To play both consoles on one TV or monitor, connect each one to its own HDMI input and switch the display to the input for the console you want to use.
What you need to connect a Switch to a TV
Nintendo’s TV setup applies to the standard Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch OLED. You need the console, its dock, a Nintendo Switch AC adapter (model HAC-002), and an HDMI cable. If you already have the dock, adapter, and a suitable cable, you may not need to buy anything.

- Connect the AC adapter to the dock and to wall power.
- Connect one end of the HDMI cable to the dock’s port labeled “HDMI OUT” and the other end to an HDMI input on the TV or monitor.
- Place the Switch console in the dock.
- Use the TV or monitor’s input control to select the HDMI input connected to the dock. The console screen turns off while docked.

Switch Lite cannot output to a TV
Nintendo states, “Nintendo Switch Lite does not support TV Mode.” A dock or adapter will not make Switch Lite video appear on a television through Nintendo’s documented setup.

Why the PS5 cannot display Switch games
The PS5 is not an HDMI input device for another console. Sony’s setup instructions connect the PS5’s HDMI OUT port to an HDMI input on a TV or monitor. Nintendo’s dock also sends video out through HDMI OUT to a display. Neither connection path routes Switch video into the PS5.
Sony’s instructions are on its Getting started with your new PS5 console page. The PS5 can play PS5 games; it cannot act as a monitor for the Switch or run Switch games.

How to use a Switch and PS5 on the same screen
Connect each console separately to the TV or monitor. Connect the dock’s HDMI OUT to one display input, and the PS5’s HDMI OUT to another. Then select the matching input on the display when you want to use that console. The Switch does not need to connect to the PS5.
If the display has too few HDMI inputs, connecting and disconnecting a cable is the straightforward option. Nintendo Japan says it has not verified HDMI selector or splitter use and recommends connecting directly to the television; treat a selector as an unverified convenience rather than a guaranteed fix. When a capture card is relevant
A capture card and computer may be appropriate if your goal is to record or stream Switch gameplay through a computer. That is a separate workflow, not a way to feed Switch video into the PS5, and it is unnecessary for simply playing on a TV. Capture-card capabilities, latency, and compatibility depend on the specific hardware; the cited setup guidance does not establish those details for any particular model.
