Short answer: Start by reviewing app-by-app location access, then tune Battery saver and display refresh rate to match your priorities. One important caveat: as of October 4, 2026, the available Android 16 settings guide is for the separately named motorola signature, not the forthcoming Signature 27. The menu paths and hardware details below are documented for that model only; check the Signature 27’s own guide or on-device menus before relying on them.
First, know which phone these settings describe
Motorola’s Android 16 user guide identified here covers the motorola signature. It does not establish that the forthcoming Signature 27 uses the same Android version, menus, display, or battery features. Where a path is given below, treat it as a useful reference for the documented model and verify the corresponding control on Signature 27.

Privacy: limit location access app by app
Review which apps can use location
On the documented motorola signature, open Settings > Location > App location permissions. The guide groups apps by whether they can access location all the time, some of the time, or not at all. Change permissions individually, and restrict access for apps that do not need it. This preserves location for the services where it is useful instead of disabling it for the whole phone.

Know the cost of switching location off globally
The same guide lists Settings > Location > Use location as the global control. Turning it off prevents precise location discovery and sharing with apps, but can also disable useful features. Use this broader switch only if that trade-off suits you.

Battery: choose the least restrictive setting that helps
Check which apps are using power
On the documented motorola signature, Settings > Battery > Adaptive Battery limits activity for apps you use infrequently while they are not in use. The guide also describes reviewing Battery usage over the previous 24 hours or 14 days and changing unusually high-use apps to Smart use or Don’t allow. Blocking an app from background use can stop it from delivering notifications, updates, or new content until you open it.

Use standard Battery saver for moderate restrictions
Standard Battery saver reduces background activity, turns on Dark theme, turns off Live Caption, delays app refresh until you open apps, and stops location services while the screen is off. Motorola’s documented model can turn it on manually or schedule it at a chosen battery percentage; the guide also offers an option to reduce background drain while the phone is inactive. These are battery-saving trade-offs, not a measured promise of a particular amount of extra runtime.
Reserve Maximum Battery saver for extended standby
Maximum Battery saver applies stronger limits. It pauses most apps and their notifications except essential apps, and disables features including gestures, live wallpapers, work profile, hotspot or tethering, and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth scanning. Screen timeout is set to 15 seconds. Adding more essential apps reduces the savings. Choose this mode when keeping the phone available for longer matters more than immediate access to nonessential apps and alerts.

Use Battery protection for long-term battery care
The motorola signature guide describes Battery protection as a charge limit of 80%. Its Smart schedule can learn your usual charging routine and finish charging from 80% to 100% about an hour before your typical unplug time. Motorola says the protection behavior requires a regular 100% charge at least once a week. This is a battery-health feature, not a way to increase the charge available when you unplug early; without the scheduled top-up, the 80% limit means less charge immediately available.

Pick a refresh-rate mode for your priority
For the documented motorola signature, the path is Settings > Display > Display refresh rate. Motorola’s Android 16 guide lists these options:

| Mode | Documented maximum | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Smart & balanced | Up to 120 Hz | Smoother motion at higher rates; higher refresh rates use more battery. |
| Hyper smooth | Up to 120 Hz | Prioritizes smoothness; higher refresh rates use more battery. |
| Efficiency first | Up to 60 Hz | Caps the documented mode lower to favor efficiency over maximum smoothness. |
Motorola says Battery saver fixes refresh at 60 Hz regardless of the selected mode. These modes and limits are from the motorola signature guide; they do not confirm Signature 27’s menu or maximum refresh rate. Motorola motorola signature Android 16 user guide.
Adjust brightness and timeout to suit how you use the phone
The guide’s practical battery advice is to use comfortable brightness and a shorter screen timeout. Set timeout to the shortest interval that does not interrupt what you are doing. Attentive Display can keep the screen on while you are looking at it and put it to sleep sooner after you look away. Motorola documents Dark theme, Night Light, color mode, and flicker prevention as additional display controls; choose those for comfort or preference rather than assuming a specific battery saving.
Keep manufacturer specifications in their model context
Motorola’s current specification page for the motorola signature lists a 6.8-inch AMOLED display, refresh rate up to 165 Hz, and peak brightness of 6,200 nits. The Android 16 guide’s listed selectable refresh modes go up to 120 Hz; the specification-page maximum and the guide’s modes are distinct claims. Motorola also lists up to 41 hours of battery life, up to 28 hours of continuous video playback, and a 5,200 mAh silicon-carbon battery for that model. These are manufacturer specifications accessed in 2026, not independently measured results or Signature 27 figures. Motorola motorola signature specifications.

- More privacy without losing useful services: review location permissions per app and restrict only the apps that do not need access.
- More runtime with ordinary access preserved: inspect Battery usage, consider Adaptive Battery or standard Battery saver, and check the notification cost before blocking an app.
- Longest standby: use Maximum Battery saver only when its pauses and disabled connections or features are acceptable.
- Smoother motion: choose a smoother documented refresh mode on the motorola signature; if efficiency matters more, use Efficiency first. Battery saver overrides the selection to 60 Hz.
- Battery care over time: consider the 80% Battery protection limit if you can accept less charge on unplugging, or use Smart schedule when its learned charging routine fits your day.
For Signature 27, verify availability and exact menu names against its own software before changing settings; the paths above are not confirmed for that device.
