Samsung says a paired watch’s display language is based on the connected phone’s language, and its guidance does not provide a watch-only override. You can change the watch’s keyboard, voice-input, or Bixby language separately, but those settings do not change the menus.
Why your paired Galaxy Watch uses your phone’s language
Samsung’s support guidance says the displayed language on a paired Galaxy Watch follows the connected phone. If you want the watch menus in another language while it remains paired, the supported route is to change the phone’s default language. Samsung’s US troubleshooting guidance also directs users to change the connected phone’s language when a paired watch displays the wrong one: Samsung: Edit the language, date, or time on your Samsung smart watch and Samsung: Wrong language selected during Galaxy watch setup.

Change the phone language to change the watch menus

On your Galaxy phone, open Settings > General management > Language.

Choose the language you want and apply it as the phone’s default.

Check the watch after the phone’s language changes. Its displayed language should follow the connected phone.
Samsung notes that screen layouts and menu names can vary by phone model, provider, and software version. See Samsung: Change language and input settings on your Galaxy phone or tablet. If the watch still shows the wrong language after changing the phone’s default, Samsung’s US troubleshooting page lists resetting the watch as a later step—not the first fix. That page’s guidance applies to watches sold in the US.

Change keyboard or voice-input language without changing menus
If your goal is to type or dictate in another language, you can change the relevant input setting on the watch. That changes the language used for input, not the language shown in menus and screens. Samsung says input settings must be changed individually, and the available options and paths vary by watch model and software version.

Samsung’s general Wear OS path is Settings > General > Input > Samsung keyboard > Manage languages. The exact labels or availability may differ on your watch.

Voice-input language
Voice-input options are accessed while composing a message; the steps depend on the watch generation and software. Changing this setting affects dictation, not the watch’s displayed language.
Set a separate language for Bixby
Bixby has its own language setting, separate from the watch’s display language and keyboard language. Samsung says voice-assistant input changes apply to Bixby or S Voice and require the watch to be connected to a phone. Available choices depend on the model and software.

Can you change the language directly on a standalone watch?
Samsung’s guidance describes a standalone-watch exception: if the watch is standalone, its display language can be set at Settings > General > Language. If that Language option is missing or grayed out, Samsung says the watch is paired. This exception does not provide a workaround for Wear OS Galaxy Watches: Samsung says Wear OS models cannot be set up as standalone watches. For a paired watch, change the connected phone’s default language to change the menus.
