- A Bitstamp account with the verification requested for your account completed. Requirements depend on region and current policy; Bitstamp’s 2021 exchange overview described identity documents and proof of residence, but the current in-product request is the authority for your account. - A funding option available in your account, plus enough funds for the purchase and any charges shown before confirmation.
Check whether XRP is available where you live
XRP availability is jurisdiction-dependent and can change. Bitstamp announced on July 13, 2023 that it had resumed XRP trading for U.S. customers, listing XRP/USD, XRP/BTC, and XRP/USDT. The announcement excluded Hawaii and Nevada; it also said XRP/USDT was unavailable in New York. Those were the restrictions stated in that dated announcement, not a current availability map or a promise that the same markets are open to every U.S. customer today. How to buy XRP on Bitstamp
- Register and complete verification. Use Bitstamp’s account sign-up process, then provide the information or documents it requests. Verification needs can differ by region and policy, so use the current instructions shown in your account.
- Confirm an XRP market is available. Look for XRP and the trading pair offered to your account. A pair such as XRP/USD, XRP/BTC, or XRP/USDT means you are trading XRP against the other named asset; the pair you can use depends on your location and account.
- Add funds using an available method. Choose only from the methods displayed in your account and check any funding instructions or charges before proceeding. Bitstamp’s 2021 overview described international wire, SEPA, FPS, ACH, and card buying for verified users. Its 2023 U.S. app announcement listed card, PayPal, bank transfer, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and ACH. These are dated examples, not a universal or current list. - Choose a buying route. In the app, follow the buy flow for XRP if it is offered. Alternatively, use an XRP market and select an order type available in your account. Bitstamp’s 2021 overview discussed instant, market, limit, stop, and trailing stop orders, but current order controls may differ. An instant or quick-buy flow presents a quote for the purchase; an exchange order is placed against a market and may offer more order controls.
- Check the preview and confirm only if the terms suit you. Review the amount of XRP, quoted price, total cost, payment method, and any fees or other charges shown. If using a market order, understand that the execution price can differ from the displayed market price as conditions change. Current region-specific pricing, fees, and minimum purchase amounts are not established by the dated sources cited here; use the live order preview and current Bitstamp fee information rather than relying on old figures.
Quick buy or exchange order?
These are different ways to place a purchase, and the available details can vary by account. Bitstamp’s July 2023 app announcement described quick buys with spread-based pricing and said there were no additional trading fees at that time. That historical description is not a guarantee of current pricing or fees. The exchange overview describes market and limit orders among its order types. Compare what your account actually shows instead of assuming either route costs less.

What fees and minimums should you expect?
Do not treat historical figures as current charges. Bitstamp’s 2021 overview stated a 0.5% starting trading fee, and its 2022 XRP transfer tutorial stated a 0.02 XRP withdrawal fee. Neither figure establishes today’s rate. The sources cited here also do not establish a complete current schedule for trading, payment funding, minimum order sizes, or XRP withdrawals. Check the current fee schedule and the final quote in your account before buying.
Keep XRP on Bitstamp or withdraw it?
If you leave XRP in your Bitstamp account, it remains in exchange custody rather than a wallet for which you control the private keys. That can be convenient for managing it on the platform, while self-custody gives you responsibility for securing and recovering your wallet access. A hardware wallet is optional and is not needed to buy XRP on Bitstamp. How to withdraw XRP safely
If you decide to send XRP to another wallet or service, follow Bitstamp’s current withdrawal instructions and confirm the recipient’s requirements before submitting. In particular, verify the receiving network, address, and whether a destination tag is required. A tag helps the receiving service identify the intended account; sending without a required tag, or with an incorrect one, can misdirect funds or make recovery difficult. Bitstamp’s 2022 tutorial warned: “Failing to provide the correct destination tag, whenever it is required, may result in a permanent loss of the XRP transferred.” The tutorial also listed a 0.02 XRP Bitstamp withdrawal fee and a 10-drop (0.00001 XRP) XRP Ledger transaction cost at that time. These are dated 2022 figures, and the Ledger transaction cost is distinct from Bitstamp’s exchange withdrawal fee; check current requirements and charges before transferring.
