Yes. Wowza Streaming Engine (WSE) documents a way to publish a video-on-demand file or playlist as live content and repeat it. The loop is configured at the Wowza source; YouTube is a separate destination that must accept the output protocol you use. Because the available documentation does not establish one direct, universal WSE-to-YouTube setup for every Engine version, verify the protocol and any relay or encoder path before scheduling a public broadcast.
How Wowza Streaming Engine repeats prerecorded content
Wowza’s Publish a video file as a live stream instructions use the ServerListenerStreamDemoPublisher server listener. The listener can be configured in WSE Manager or in Server.xml. Wowza lists MP4, MP3, and M3U8 as supported source types for this setup. After you enable the listener, the VOD file can loop until the stream is stopped.

Choose the repeat behavior
playlistRepeat=truerepeats the configured file or playlist.publishRepeat=truerepublishes after the configuredpublishDurationelapses. This mode requirespublishDurationto be greater than zero;publishPauseTimesets the delay before republishing.
These are separate controls: use playlist repetition for a continuing file or playlist, or timed republishing when you specifically want the publisher to restart after a defined duration. Follow the instructions for your installed WSE version, and restart the server after changing the configuration.

Build a playlist from multiple assets
Wowza’s example creates an M3U8 text file in the installation’s content directory, with one stream name per line. Set srcStream=m3u8:filelist.m3u8 to use that list. The example also uses random=false to retain list order and timeBetweenItems to control the gap between items. Start and inspect the resulting Wowza stream before connecting it to a public YouTube broadcast.

Connect the Wowza output to YouTube
A YouTube live broadcast is an event associated with a live stream that receives the audio and video feed. You obtain the YouTube stream key and ingest URL in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room or through supported API workflows, then configure them in the sending encoder or compatible output path. The Wowza loop setting does not, by itself, establish that the WSE output is configured for YouTube.
- Confirm YouTube access. Check channel eligibility and that the channel can create a live stream before relying on an unattended broadcast.
- Identify the output protocol. Confirm which protocol your WSE version and output path can send, and which ingest option YouTube currently offers for the event.
- Configure the destination path. Apply the YouTube ingest URL and stream key in the compatible sending encoder or relay. Do not assume a direct connection is supported without verifying the specific versions and configuration.
- Test privately or unlisted first. Check that video and audio reach YouTube, the playlist advances as intended, and the broadcast continues for a representative period before promoting a public event.
YouTube’s ingestion protocol guidance describes multiple ingest options. If you use HLS ingest, Google specifies HTTPS uploads, a rolling media playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, TS segments lasting 1–4 seconds, and muxed audio and video in a single encoded stream. Google notes HLS has higher latency than RTMP because it sends segments rather than one continuous stream. These requirements apply to HLS; do not transfer them to another ingest protocol.

YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Its help page also says streamers must be at least 16 years old. Verify current eligibility and account access before building an event around a loop.
Do not confuse a live-source loop with YouTube player looping
YouTube’s player loop controls and the IFrame Player API can repeat a video or playlist for an individual viewer. That repeats playback at the viewer’s end; it does not restart or repeat the incoming source of a live broadcast. To present prerecorded material as a continuous live feed, configure repetition at the source or publisher, such as WSE’s repeat controls.

Choose between WSE and a managed loop

Wowza’s Wowza Video loop instructions describe that managed option. It is distinct from configuring the WSE server listener; neither option removes the need to check the YouTube ingest path.
Copyright, presentation, and operational checks
- Have the necessary rights. A file being prerecorded does not make its music, footage, or other material free to broadcast. Confirm you have permission for the content and the intended use on YouTube.
- Describe the broadcast honestly. Make the title, metadata, and presentation clear that the live feed is a repeating prerecorded program where that matters to viewers.
- Watch for unintended gaps or repetition. Test transitions, playlist order, and any configured delay between items. Confirm the loop remains active as expected before leaving it unattended.
- Plan how it will stop. Decide who can stop the WSE publisher or managed transcoder and how to end the YouTube event. For Wowza Video continuous looping, remember that charges continue until the transcoder is manually stopped.
Troubleshooting a Wowza-to-YouTube loop
