USB-C rechargeable 1.5V lithium AA batteries are available, but a matching voltage label does not establish that they will work in your security camera. For Blink cameras, the manufacturer says to use 1.5V lithium non-rechargeable AA batteries and states that rechargeable cells are not compatible. Because no camera model or test results are specified here, there is no verified basis to claim a camera-specific runtime or test outcome.
Do USB-C rechargeable AA batteries work in a security camera?
They may fit the battery compartment and provide a nominal 1.5V output, but compatibility depends on the camera’s requirements and the cell’s electrical behavior. Check the exact model’s manual before installing a different battery type. In particular, do not treat a USB-C charging port or a 1.5V rating as evidence that the camera maker approves the cell.

Blink cameras require non-rechargeable lithium AAs
Blink Support says: “Note: Blink cameras are only compatible with size AA 1.5 volt Lithium non-rechargeable batteries.” It recommends Energizer Lithium 1.5V non-rechargeable batteries for optimal performance and notes that results may vary with other battery types. Blink’s battery-life guidance therefore does not support using USB-C rechargeable AAs in a Blink camera.

Some rechargeable AA products contain electronics to provide a regulated 1.5V output. Their current limits, protective cutoffs, dimensions, terminal shape, and operating behavior can differ. A camera may draw a brief surge when activating its radio, night vision, or other features; a cell’s protection circuit may interrupt output if the demand exceeds its limit. Product specifications are not a substitute for a camera maker’s compatibility statement.

What USB-C rechargeable AA specifications actually tell you
Manufacturer pages show that USB-C rechargeable AA lithium cells exist, but their listed specifications vary. The figures below are manufacturer claims, not independently verified camera-runtime measurements.
| Product | Capacity claim | Current and protection | Other listed details |
|---|---|---|---|
| XTAR AA 1.5V LR USB-C | 3000mAh | Maximum discharge current 2.5A; protected construction | Nominal 1.5V; 4.75–5.5V charging input; charging current 0.35±0.05A; cycle life above 1200; button top; approximately 14.3 × 50.3mm. XTAR product specifications |
| Keeppower P1450TC Type-C | 2500mAh typical; 2300mAh minimum | 2A maximum continuous discharge; built-in protection | More than 500 charge-discharge cycles. Keeppower product specifications |
XTAR’s FAQ discusses protected 1.5V AA batteries with a 2A maximum continuous discharge current and says protection may stop output when current exceeds roughly 2–2.5A. XTAR warns that devices with high instantaneous or continuous current demand may not work with those models. Those limits should not be generalized to every USB-C rechargeable AA, and a stated maximum discharge current does not prove that a particular camera will operate reliably. XTAR’s 1.5V AA FAQ

How to check your camera before buying or installing rechargeable cells
- Find the exact camera model and its battery instructions. Use the manufacturer’s manual or support page, not only the voltage printed on a battery listing.
- Confirm the allowed chemistry and rechargeability. If the instructions specify non-rechargeable lithium AA cells, do not assume a rechargeable 1.5V lithium product is an approved substitute.
- Check the cell’s electrical and physical specifications. Compare discharge limits and protection behavior, dimensions, and terminal style with the camera’s requirements.
- Check temperature requirements. Outdoor conditions can fall outside the camera’s supported range and affect operation.
- Use only the charging method specified for that battery. USB-C cells may have product-specific adapter and cable requirements; do not infer that every USB-C power source is suitable.
What Blink users should use instead
Blink lists two AA 1.5V lithium non-rechargeable batteries as the main power source for Outdoor 4 and recommends Energizer Lithium 1.5V non-rechargeable batteries. The Outdoor 4 specifications give an operating temperature range of -4°F to 113°F (-20°C to 45°C). These figures describe that model, not every security camera.
Blink estimates battery life of up to two years under default settings, while explaining that actual life varies with settings, use, and environmental factors. That estimate is not a runtime result for USB-C rechargeable batteries. Blink battery-life guidance

For supported Blink models, the manufacturer also documents USB power accessories and specifies a 5V/1A adapter for the described setup. Its instructions warn against rechargeable batteries in the listed indoor-use configuration. Outdoor use can involve removing a port cover, which may affect weather resistance; check the exact model’s instructions and use the specified weather-resistant accessory where required. What a reliable camera test would need to establish
A meaningful comparison would identify the camera and cell models, use multiple samples, record test duration and settings, and track environmental conditions alongside a comparison battery. Without those details and observed results, claims about runtime, reliability, or safety in a particular camera are not established. The manufacturer’s compatibility requirements remain the practical guide for choosing a battery.
