Yes. Create a separate OBS scene for each sermon layout, then switch between them while OBS keeps sending the same encoder feed to YouTube. Changing scenes changes what viewers see; it does not end the YouTube stream.
Set up the two sermon scenes
- In OBS, create a scene for the first sermon layout and another for the second. Give each a clear name, such as “Sermon – Speaker” and “Sermon – Scripture.” OBS scenes are layouts assembled from sources, so add the camera, text, graphics, and other elements each layout needs. See the OBS Studio Overview Guide.
- Choose a transition between the scenes. OBS includes Cut and Fade; you can configure transition duration and trigger a change through scene selection, Quick Transitions, or a hotkey. A Cut changes immediately; a Fade takes the configured time.
- If you want to prepare the next layout without putting it on air, enable Studio Mode. The current live scene remains visible while you prepare the other scene in the edit area. Select Transition when it is ready to go live.
Connect OBS to YouTube and switch during the service
- In YouTube Live Control Room, set up the live event and obtain its stream URL and stream key. Enter those connection details in OBS, following YouTube’s encoder setup instructions and stream settings guidance. Treat the stream key as private.
- Start streaming from OBS. Check the incoming preview in YouTube Live Control Room before the service begins.
- During the service, select the next scene, use Quick Transitions, or press the assigned hotkey. With Studio Mode, preview and prepare the next scene first, then use Transition. Keep OBS streaming; do not stop the encoder feed just to change scenes.
- When the broadcast is over, stop the encoder feed and end the stream in YouTube Live Control Room. YouTube treats ending the event separately from changing the scene.
YouTube recommends checking the preview before going live and monitoring audio and video during the stream. Rehearse both scene changes with the actual sources, and check that the sermon audio and picture remain correct after each change. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.

Choose a switching method that suits the operator
- Direct scene selection: straightforward when the operator can clearly see and select the right scene.
- Quick Transition or hotkey: useful when you want a deliberate, repeatable trigger; rehearse the control before the service.
- Studio Mode: helpful when a volunteer should prepare and inspect the next layout before viewers see it.
- Cut or Fade: use a Cut for an immediate change or a Fade for a gradual one. Choose based on the look you want and verify it with your actual sources.
This workflow uses OBS scene controls and the YouTube encoder connection. It does not, by itself, establish a need for an additional controller, capture card, mixer, camera, or hardware switcher.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a church that wants uploaded sermon recordings to play continuously as a YouTube live stream, StreamNeo runs the video from the cloud: upload a recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a live camera, so it is an alternative for prerecorded content—not a replacement for switching live camera scenes in OBS.
