Generally, yes: SingleFile can save a web page and its available resources as one HTML file that can be opened offline, often retaining its recognizable layout. But it saves a captured page, not automatically every page linked from it, and scripts or resources may not work as they do online.
What SingleFile preserves—and what it does not
SingleFile is designed to package a page and resources such as stylesheets, images, fonts, and frames into a single HTML file. The project says that saved pages can be viewed offline in a browser without installing the extension. See the SingleFile project site and its official FAQ and documentation.

That makes it useful as a portable copy of one page. Links can remain in the saved page as references, but a link to another site page usually still needs an internet connection unless that destination was saved separately. SingleFile does not promise to follow links and recursively archive the pages they lead to.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesLayout and embedded resources
When the browser can obtain the page’s resources, the saved file can retain its visual structure. The result is not guaranteed to match the live page exactly: protected or unavailable resources may be missing, and a site may change its content after the capture.

Scripts and interactive elements
Visual appearance and interactive behavior are different questions. SingleFile removes scripts by default because they can change rendering and are not guaranteed to work offline. Elements such as dynamic maps, carousels, or expandable sections may therefore be static or incomplete in the archive. Settings can allow scripts or preserve more raw page content, but that does not ensure offline functionality.
Save and verify a page for offline use
- Load the page completely. Wait for the page to finish loading before saving. If it uses deferred images or iframes, use SingleFile’s options to load them before capture where available.
- Save the page with SingleFile. The extension can save the current tab; the Chrome listing also describes options for selected content, frames, links, and multiple tabs. Those options let you choose what to capture, but do not mean all linked pages are automatically archived.
- Open the resulting HTML file offline. Disconnect from the network and open the file in a browser. Check the specific layout, images, fonts, frames, links, and interactions you need. A link may still point to an online destination rather than a saved local page.
- Save important linked pages separately. If you need a set of pages to be readable offline, capture each required destination too, then verify the saved files and their links.
SingleFile is available as a browser extension for Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari, and as a command-line version for Windows, macOS, and Linux, according to the project site. Check the project site for current installation options.

Fix common offline-archive problems
Images are missing
Some websites protect images from being loaded by other pages. SingleFile’s FAQ says that enabling the option to pass the Referer header after a cross-origin request error may help. This changes what is sent with a resource request and may not resolve every protected-image case.

A map, carousel, or menu no longer works
These features may depend on JavaScript or online data. You can try allowing scripts in SingleFile’s settings and, if relevant, adjust settings for hidden elements, unused styles, or raw page content. Treat these as troubleshooting options, not a guarantee: scripts may rely on a live server or other resources unavailable offline.

The page looks incomplete
Capture only after loading finishes, and use the options for deferred images and iframes if the page needs them. Then reopen the saved file without a network connection to identify what was actually preserved.
The SingleFile infobar does not appear on a local file in Chrome
Chrome blocks extension access to local files by default. To display SingleFile’s infobar on saved pages or save a page stored on your filesystem, enable Allow access to file URLs in the extension’s Chrome settings.

When a single HTML file is not enough
SingleFile’s own FAQ says it is not a tool used by professional web archivists, who prefer WARC-based tools. For portable copies of selected pages, a standalone HTML file is convenient. For professional collection management or broader preservation, evaluate a WARC-based workflow instead.

The project says the work is performed in the browser and page data is not uploaded to third-party servers. It also notes that SingleFile may download page resources that are present in the page but are not displayed or already cached. That is the project’s description, not a broader guarantee about every site’s behavior or privacy implications.

If you need a screenshot rather than an offline HTML archive, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. A single GET request returns an image or PDF; it does not replace saving a page and its links as an offline archive. For example, this cURL request saves a screenshot of a page as WebP (get an API key first; see the ScreenshotNeo documentation):
Quick Recap
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners before capture and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides screenshot and PDF tools for AI agents. The Free plan includes 1,000 shots per month with no card required; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.
