No—not by itself. ReShade is a general-purpose post-processing injector, while NVIDIA DLSS is a game-integrated rendering technology that relies on inputs and setup supplied by the game. Installing ReShade or a shader preset cannot universally add genuine DLSS to a title that was built without it.
What ReShade does
ReShade describes itself as “a generic post-processing injector for games and video software developed by crosire.” It can use frame color and depth information exposed by a game’s rendering pipeline to apply effects such as ambient occlusion, depth of field, color correction and SMAA. These effects alter image data; ReShade is not, by default, a replacement for a game’s rendering system.

That distinction matters because a shader that makes an image look sharper or scales it to a different output size does not thereby become DLSS. “Upscaling” describes the broad outcome of producing a larger image from a smaller one, not one specific technique.

DLSS Super Resolution is NVIDIA neural-rendering technology powered by RTX Tensor Cores. NVIDIA’s integration documentation describes game-side setup and rendering inputs, including a game-specific application ID, accurate motion vectors, exposure and jitter handling, and the selection of a DLSS mode or support for dynamic resolution. It also places DLSS at or near the beginning of post-processing.

Those inputs and pipeline decisions are why a generic effect applied to a finished frame is not equivalent to DLSS. ReShade can process information available to it, but ordinary ReShade installation does not supply the game-specific integration NVIDIA documents.
How to tell a generic upscaler from game-integrated DLSS
| What to check | Generic post-processing tool | Game-integrated DLSS |
|---|---|---|
| Game support | May apply effects where the injector and game are compatible. | Requires the game’s DLSS integration. |
| Image information | Works with frame data exposed to the injector, such as color and depth. | Uses game-supplied rendering inputs, including motion vectors, exposure and jitter handling. |
| What the label means | Can alter an image or scale output; that alone does not make the method DLSS. | A specific NVIDIA neural-rendering feature, not a generic synonym for upscaling. |
| Compatibility evidence | Depends on the game, graphics API and configuration. | Depends on game-specific implementation and supported hardware. |
Can an add-on make an exception?
Yes, a specialized add-on may do work that a normal ReShade preset cannot. ReShade’s add-on API can extend ReShade and games, and a forum discussion describes LUMA adding DLSS and HDR to a particular game through a ReShade add-on. That is a project- and game-specific example, not evidence that standard ReShade shaders can retrofit DLSS into arbitrary titles.

Likewise, reports of ReShade interacting with an existing DLSS path should be treated as specific compatibility reports. One forum report concerns a Linux/Proton setup; it does not establish universal compatibility across games, graphics APIs or configurations.

What to do if your game does not list DLSS
- Check the game’s own graphics settings and official feature information for DLSS support. If the game has no DLSS integration, installing ReShade or a preset is not enough to create it.
- If you are considering an add-on, verify that it names your exact game and configuration. Do not assume that a method reported for one title applies to another.
- If the game already supports DLSS, enable it through the game’s own settings. ReShade may be usable alongside it, but compatibility depends on the game and setup.
- Do not expect an RTX-capable graphics card alone to add DLSS to a game that lacks the required game-side implementation.
