Yes, sometimes—but if both TVs respond to the same infrared (IR) commands, they may react to the same button press. A remote that works with two TVs does not necessarily let you choose which one to control. Check the TV and remote model numbers and whether the connection uses IR, Bluetooth, or radio frequency (RF) before relying on a shared remote.
When one remote can work with two TVs
A standard TV remote is generally intended for one TV. Sony Support describes an exception: TVs from the same manufacturer may both respond if they use the same IR frequency. That compatibility can make one remote operate both sets at once, rather than control them independently. Sony Support’s guidance is general; it does not determine compatibility for any particular pair of TV models.

Using the same brand is not enough to guarantee separate control. Panasonic says its TV remote’s IR code cannot be changed and recommends keeping multiple Panasonic TVs far enough apart to avoid one remote affecting both. Panasonic’s guidance illustrates why shared-brand compatibility can be a drawback as well as a convenience.

How to choose the right control method
Both TVs respond to the same button press
This points to overlapping IR commands. If you do not want both sets to respond, try moving them farther apart. LG also advises partially covering the IR sensor on the device that should not respond when no applicable setting is available. Follow the guidance for your TV models, and make sure any covering does not obstruct ventilation or other sensors. LG’s troubleshooting advice covers this situation.

The TVs use different IR command sets
Consider a universal remote that supports both exact TV models and lets you select a device mode. Sony identifies an additional function button, such as AUX or OPTION, as one way to handle devices with different manufacturers or IR frequencies. Confirm that the chosen remote can store both TVs and switch between them; the word “universal” alone does not guarantee those features. Sony Support explains this approach.
You still have both original remotes
A learning remote can copy IR commands from the originals. Learning the commands is only one part of the solution: the remote must also let you assign them to separate, selectable device modes if you want to operate one TV without affecting the other. Check and test power, input, volume, and navigation for each TV separately. Sony Support lists learning remotes as an option when the original remotes are available.

The remote pairs through Bluetooth or RF
Do not assume a Bluetooth- or RF-based remote behaves like an IR remote. Check the exact TV and remote manuals for pairing and compatibility requirements. One For All says its URC7935 Streamer remote transmits IR only; control of an RF streaming device through HDMI-CEC depends on both the TV and streaming device and is not guaranteed. That statement applies to that remote and connected streaming-device setup, not to every TV remote. One For All’s FAQ explains the model-specific limitation.

What to verify before buying a remote
- Exact compatibility: Check both TV model numbers against the remote’s supported-device information.
- Two device slots: Make sure the remote can store both TVs, not merely a TV and another kind of device.
- Selectable modes: Look for distinct device modes that let you choose the intended TV before sending commands.
- Learning support: If you have the original remotes, confirm that learned commands can be assigned to separate modes.
- Required connection: Verify whether your TVs require IR, Bluetooth, or RF pairing; an IR-only remote may not replace a paired control link.
For example, One For All describes its Evolve 2 (URC 7125) as a two-device remote with a learning feature and device-mode indicator. How to diagnose your setup
- Write down both TV model numbers and the remote model number. Use the manuals or manufacturer support pages to check how each TV receives remote commands.
- Test each original remote with both TVs. If one remote operates both sets, especially from the same room, shared IR commands are a likely explanation.
- Decide whether simultaneous response is acceptable. If not, try more distance between the sets or the sensor-shielding approach recommended by LG, where suitable.
- If you need one-at-a-time control, check for selectable device modes. A universal or learning remote must provide a way to select the target TV; storing commands alone is not enough.
- For Bluetooth or RF controls, follow the model-specific pairing instructions. Do not assume an IR replacement will provide the same connection or behavior.
