No. A Bedrock Edition add-on cannot be installed on or executed by a Java Edition server. Bedrock add-ons are built from behavior packs and resource packs in Bedrock-specific formats, while Java Edition expects datapacks, resource packs, or mods designed for Java. The editions do not share an add-on format or runtime.
Godlike.Host offers hosted Minecraft Java servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
If you want similar content on Java, you must find a Java datapack, Java resource pack, or Java mod—or recreate the feature specifically for Java. Conversion tools may move limited assets between editions, but they do not turn a Bedrock add-on into a generally compatible Java package.

What a Minecraft add-on actually is
“Add-on” is Bedrock Edition terminology. A Bedrock add-on combines one or both of these pack types:
- Behavior pack: server-side game logic, such as custom entity behavior, recipes, loot, spawn rules, or other mechanics exposed by Bedrock’s pack system.
- Resource pack: client-side presentation, including textures, models, sounds, and other visual or audio assets.
A combined resource pack and behavior pack is distributed as an add-on. Common Bedrock package extensions are .mcpack for a pack and .mcaddon for a bundle. Those extensions identify Bedrock content; renaming the file to .zip, uploading it to a Java server, or extracting it into a Java world does not change its format.

The split between logic and presentation also matters operationally. Behavior packs run on the server. A player may receive a resource pack from the server, but the behavior pack itself is not a client download. Java uses different files and registration rules for both kinds of content.
Why Java Edition cannot read a Bedrock add-on
Java and Bedrock are separate editions with different engines, data formats, and pack systems. A Java server does not parse a Bedrock manifest or interpret Bedrock behavior-pack definitions as Java game data. Conversely, a Java datapack is not a Bedrock behavior pack.

Microsoft describes Bedrock behavior packs as comparable in purpose to Java datapacks, but “comparable” means they solve a similar problem—not that they are interchangeable. The equivalent role is not the equivalent file format. A Java server needs content authored for the Java edition’s command, data, and resource-pack systems.
The same boundary applies to resource packs. A pack made for Java must be adapted for Bedrock before Bedrock can use it, and a Bedrock resource pack is not automatically a Java resource pack. Textures may look portable, but the metadata, model definitions, sounds, and other references around those assets can differ.
What you can use instead on a Java server

| Java option | What it changes | Server or client responsibility | When to choose it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Java datapack | Server-side recipes, functions, loot, predicates, structures, tags, and other data-driven behavior supported by Java | Runs on the server; players generally do not install a separate client mod | The Bedrock add-on primarily changes rules or mechanics that Java datapacks can express |
| Java resource pack | Textures, sounds, models, fonts, and other client presentation supported by Java | Players must download or enable the pack to see its assets | The desired result is visual or audio rather than new server logic |
| Java mod | New mechanics and systems beyond the normal datapack interface | Requires a compatible Java mod loader; whether players also need a client installation depends on the mod | The feature needs code or hooks that datapacks cannot provide |
Java mods generally offer a wider technical reach than Bedrock add-ons, while Bedrock add-ons are limited to the features Mojang exposes through Bedrock’s pack system. That greater reach also brings a larger compatibility obligation: the server’s Minecraft version, loader, mod versions, and sometimes the players’ installations must line up.

1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesHow to identify what a Bedrock add-on needs
Before looking for a Java replacement, separate the add-on into its functional parts. This prevents installing a resource pack when the important feature is actually server logic.
For mechanics and rules
Look for a Java datapack that advertises the same gameplay result. A datapack can be installed server-side, but only if the author implemented the feature with Java’s available commands and data systems. A Bedrock behavior pack cannot be substituted directly, even when both packs appear to add a similarly named mob, item, or recipe.
For textures, sounds, and models
Find a Java resource pack made for the server’s Java version. Players need the pack enabled locally or delivered by the server. If the original Bedrock project contains custom geometry, attachables, or render-controller behavior, a simple texture copy will not reproduce all of it on Java.
For new systems or extensive changes
Use a Java mod built for the server’s chosen version and mod loader. Check whether the mod is server-only or requires a matching client installation before asking players to connect. A Bedrock add-on’s behavior cannot be assumed to map to a Java mod just because both projects use the same name.

Installing a Java replacement: a practical workflow
- Record the target environment. Write down the Java Edition version, the server software and its version, and whether the server permits datapacks, resource packs, or mods. Pack format details and supported features change over time.
- Classify the desired feature. Decide whether you need server logic, client visuals and sound, or code-level changes. If it spans more than one category, plan for a datapack plus resource pack, or a mod that supplies both sides.
- Obtain a Java-native package. Use a datapack, resource pack, or mod explicitly published for Java Edition. Do not treat a
.mcpackor.mcaddonfile as a Java package. - Back up the world and test separately. Make a copy of the world before changing its content. Test on a private or staging server so an incompatible pack does not damage the live save or disrupt players.
- Install according to the package type. Put a Java datapack in the world’s datapack location, configure a Java resource pack through the server’s resource-pack settings or players’ clients, and install a mod only through the loader and version combination specified by its author.
- Verify dependencies and activation. Check the server log, reload or restart using the method appropriate to the package, and confirm that the content is enabled in the world. If a resource pack is involved, verify it on an actual player client rather than only from the server console.
- Test the feature in its intended conditions. Check crafting, spawning, commands, multiplayer permissions, visuals, sounds, and world loading. A pack can appear to load while one component fails because it targets another Java version.
Can you convert a Bedrock add-on to Java?
There is no general, reliable one-click conversion path. Conversion is partial because the editions do not expose the same systems.
Resource conversion
Some tools and community workflows can adapt Java resource-pack assets for Bedrock, or the reverse, by changing metadata and file organization. That does not guarantee equivalent models, animations, sounds, UI, or rendering. A successful texture conversion is not evidence that the associated behavior pack can be converted.
Behavior and datapack conversion
Community answers and commercial converter claims describe possible transformations in some cases, but these claims should be treated as unverified rather than as a compatibility standard. A converter may produce a starting point that still needs manual rewriting and testing. Java datapacks and Bedrock behavior packs use different systems, so a conversion cannot preserve every function automatically.
Features with no direct counterpart
Some Bedrock-specific concepts, including JSON UI, entity geometry, attachables, and render controllers, have no Java form according to converter documentation. Even when a tool copies files, those features require a Java-specific implementation or must be omitted. Treat any advertised conversion as a project estimate, not a promise that the original add-on will run unchanged.

Common failed approaches and what they mean
Uploading the .mcaddon file to a Java host
The server will not load it because the extension and internal manifests describe Bedrock content. Ask the add-on author whether a separate Java datapack, resource pack, or mod exists instead.

Renaming or unzipping the package
Changing the container does not translate commands, identifiers, manifests, models, or behavior definitions. At most, you expose files that still target the wrong edition.
Installing only the resource pack
This can reproduce some artwork or sounds, but it cannot supply behavior-pack logic. If the add-on’s purpose is a new mob behavior, recipe system, or rule change, visuals alone are incomplete.
Installing only a datapack for a visual add-on
A datapack cannot provide the client assets that make a Bedrock add-on look or sound different. A Java resource pack is required for presentation changes, and players must receive or enable it.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.What about projects that make Java resemble Bedrock?
Java-side projects can bundle selected Java mods, datapacks, and resource packs to reproduce parts of Bedrock’s textures, behaviors, or mechanics. The Bedrock Reloaded modpack is an example of that approach: it is assembled for Java and aims to align selected aspects of the experience.
Best Value
Such a project remains a Java collection. It does not make a Java server execute Bedrock add-ons, and it does not remove the need to check the project’s supported Java version and installation requirements.
Server-hosting context
Guides that show an upload or activation screen for behavior packs are describing a Bedrock server. On Bedrock, the host can expose world settings for behavior packs and add-ons because that server understands Bedrock’s pack format. A Java host may offer similarly named upload fields, but the label alone does not add Bedrock support.

Version and maintenance checks
Pack formats, manifests, supported features, and loader requirements change with Minecraft versions. Before deploying a replacement, verify:
- the exact Java Edition version supported by the package;
- whether the datapack or resource pack declares a compatible format;
- whether a mod needs a particular loader or dependency;
- whether every player must install a client component;
- whether the project is maintained for the server version you run.
Keep the original world backup and document which packages are enabled. When updating Java, test packs in a copy first; a version change can disable functions, alter identifiers, or make a loader-dependent mod refuse to start.
Quick Recap
Decision guide
- You have a Bedrock add-on and a Java server: do not upload the add-on. Search for a Java-native equivalent or plan a rewrite.
- You need only new recipes, loot, or rule logic: start with a Java datapack.
- You need textures, sounds, or models: use a Java resource pack and account for player downloads.
- You need a system outside datapack capabilities: evaluate a Java mod and its loader and client requirements.
- You want to convert existing files: expect partial results, manual work, and unsupported Bedrock-only features; test every intended function.
