Restarting the only server carrying an IRL Pro feed interrupts the video reaching YouTube. IRL Pro may reconnect when the server returns, but that is not the same as uninterrupted streaming, and YouTube does not promise that the same live event will remain open through every outage. If continuity matters, test your exact setup before going public and consider a separately tested backup publishing path.
What happens when the server restarts?
IRL Pro on Android can publish using RTMP or SRT. In Enhanced IRL’s guide, the service dashboard changes from “No signal” to “Streaming” when the app is broadcasting, and the guide describes a reconnect loop when the URL is invalid. That documents connection-retry behavior; it does not establish that YouTube receives video while the server is down or that a returning feed preserves the same event. If the restarted server is the only route from IRL Pro to YouTube, no video can travel through that route while the server is stopped. Once it is back, IRL Pro or the relay may reconnect, but viewers can experience an interruption and the event’s status after reconnection is not guaranteed.
What YouTube does—and does not—guarantee
YouTube’s encoder instructions say, “To end the stream, stop sending content from your encoder.” Its public help explains how to start and end a stream, but does not specify a universal grace period for missing encoder input or promise that a returning feed will continue the same live event in every setup. YouTube also provides auto-start and auto-stop controls in stream settings. These affect whether starting or stopping encoder output starts or stops the event. Check the settings for the specific stream in Live Control Room; do not assume that a brief disconnect, a manual stop, and a server restart all have the same effect.
How to test your exact setup before an event
Run an unlisted rehearsal with the same IRL Pro protocol, relay or server, routing, and YouTube stream settings you intend to use. YouTube recommends testing ahead of time and describes testing a backup encoder by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its network cable. The steps below apply that guidance to a server restart; they are a practical check, not a guarantee for other configurations.

- Create an unlisted YouTube test stream. Use the same event type and stream settings planned for the real broadcast.
- Configure IRL Pro and the relay as usual. Verify the YouTube server URL and stream key are entered in the publishing path, then confirm that video and audio reach YouTube before testing.
- Observe the Live Control Room and a viewer playback window. Note whether the event remains open, what viewers see and hear, and whether the incoming signal disappears.
- Restart the server that carries the feed. Check whether IRL Pro retries, whether the relay accepts the returning publisher, and whether video resumes without manual action.
- Record the outcome for your configuration. Check event status, recovery time, playback behavior, and audio/video continuity. Repeat with any settings you plan to change.
- If continuity is important, test a separate backup path. YouTube advises verifying that playback rolls over to a backup encoder when the primary path fails. Confirm the result in both Live Control Room and viewer playback rather than assuming that a configured backup works.
Single server or a redundant path?

YouTube’s streaming tips recommend adequate upload bandwidth, headroom, advance testing, and monitoring; the same page warns, “A disruption on your connectivity could mean a broken stream.” Those precautions help with network instability, but they cannot keep video flowing through the only server while it is stopped.

Transport and network quality can improve resilience to weak connectivity, not remove a server restart as a single point of failure. Enhanced IRL’s guide says SRT holds up better than RTMP on unstable mobile coverage. That is relevant to mobile-link conditions; it is not evidence that either protocol can publish through a stopped server.

- Use a stable route with enough upload capacity and headroom for the encoder’s output, and monitor it during the event.
- Choose RTMP or SRT based on the supported configuration and network conditions you have tested.
- Do not treat a bitrate adjustment, keyframe setting, or protocol change as a substitute for a second publishing path. None makes the sole server available while it is restarting.
