Sometimes, but not reliably from the chip name alone. Rockstar’s PC requirements list discrete NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards as minimums for both editions of Grand Theft Auto V, and they warn that integrated graphics may be incompatible. Whether a specific Intel HD machine can run the game depends on the exact graphics model, the processor, the installed memory, and which edition you plan to play.
Why “Intel HD Graphics” is not one answer
Intel’s HD Graphics name covers many integrated generations spread across several years of processors. Those chips differ in DirectX support, in how they share system memory, and in driver maturity. A yes for one HD model tells you little about another, so identify the exact model before drawing any conclusion.

What Rockstar’s PC requirements say
Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V PC system requirements page, last updated December 10, 2025, lists the two PC editions separately. The minimums differ on every line, so compare each edition on its own terms. Rockstar may revise these figures, so check the live page before buying.
| Requirement | GTA V Legacy | GTA V Enhanced |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum graphics card | NVIDIA 9800 GT (1 GB VRAM) or AMD HD 4870 (1 GB VRAM) | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1630 (4 GB VRAM) or AMD Radeon RX 6400 (4 GB VRAM) |
| DirectX support listed | DirectX 10, 10.1, or 11 | Not stated (Rockstar requirements page, December 10, 2025) |
| Operating system | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 10 build 1909 or later |
| System RAM | 4 GB | 8 GB |
| Storage | 125 GB HDD | 105 GB SSD |
Enhanced is the far heavier edition: it needs a discrete card with 4 GB of VRAM, twice the system RAM, and an SSD. Every Legacy minimum is a discrete card or a desktop-class system spec, not an integrated-graphics spec.

The Legacy entitlement is not a compatibility guarantee
The Rockstar Games Store listing for the PC version, accessed October 7, 2026, states that the PC purchase includes both editions. Legacy is included for hardware that falls short of the Enhanced minimums. That is a useful buying distinction, but it does not mean every older integrated GPU can run Legacy. Legacy’s own minimums still apply.
The integrated graphics warning
Rockstar’s requirements include this statement: “Some system components such as mobile chipsets, integrated, and AGP graphics cards may be incompatible.” The same page cautions that unlisted specifications may not be supported. A machine that is close to a stated minimum, or that uses an integrated chip the page does not name, is not covered by that minimum.

What Intel’s API support tells you
Intel’s Supported APIs for Intel Graphics page, last reviewed October 23, 2025, lists DirectX support by graphics model. HD Graphics 2500 and HD Graphics 4000 are listed at DirectX 11, and several later HD models are listed at DirectX 12. A DirectX 11 model matches the API level that Legacy lists, but that is the only Legacy line such a chip can be checked against.
API support shows that the graphics chip exposes the interfaces the game uses. It does not show that the chip meets Rockstar’s minimums, and it does not predict a playable frame rate.

How to identify your setup
Gather these details before comparing anything against the requirements:
- Graphics model and DirectX level. Press Win + R, type
dxdiag, and press Enter. On the Display tab, note the Name and Chip Type. The Display Memory figure on an integrated chip reports shared memory, not dedicated VRAM, so it cannot be compared directly with Rockstar’s VRAM figures. - Windows build. Press Win + R, type
winver, and press Enter. Enhanced requires build 1909 or later. - Processor and system memory. In dxdiag, open the System tab for the processor and total memory. Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc), go to the Performance tab, and select Memory to see slots used and form factor.
- Memory channel mode. Task Manager does not report whether memory runs single- or dual-channel. A hardware information tool such as CPU-Z shows this on its Memory tab under the Channels field.
- Drive type and free space. In Task Manager’s Performance tab, select Disk and check whether the drive is listed as SSD or HDD. Then check free space in File Explorer under This PC. Enhanced needs 105 GB on an SSD; Legacy needs 125 GB on an HDD.
Matching your situation to the evidence
| Your situation | What the evidence supports | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Desktop with only an Intel HD integrated GPU | Rockstar’s minimums are discrete cards, and the page warns integrated graphics may be incompatible. | Treat the machine as unverified for both editions. Compare its other specs against the Legacy column if a discrete upgrade is not possible. |
| Desktop with a free compatible PCIe slot | Discrete GPU minimums are the route Rockstar lists for both editions. | Confirm the slot, the power supply and connectors, case clearance, and motherboard support before buying a card that meets the target edition’s GPU minimum. |
| Laptop with only Intel HD graphics | The sources here do not establish a supported upgrade path for laptop graphics. | Check the manufacturer’s specifications for your exact model. Do not assume the graphics chip can be replaced. |
| Machine that misses Enhanced minimums but meets Legacy’s | The store listing includes Legacy with the PC purchase. | Install Legacy. Check that your OS build, RAM, and storage meet Legacy’s stated minimums. |
Where the evidence stops
Rockstar’s published minimums and integrated-graphics caution are the firmest facts available. Intel’s API table establishes DirectX support by model and nothing more. Neither source names an Intel HD model as approved for GTA V, and neither gives frame rates for one. Older user-posted benchmarks do not settle the question, because results vary with the edition, the driver version, and the memory configuration. Treat any claim that a named HD chip is “playable” as unverified.
